국문 초록

본 연구는 심층면접을 통해 조모세대와 모세대의 육아를 살펴보고 변화된 육아의 모습을 비교 분석하였다. 이를 위하여 유아기 자녀를 가진 모세대와 그들의 어머니인 조모세대 총 7쌍을 개별 면담하였다. 조모세대는 경제적인 어려움 속에서도 ‘교육적 지원’을 하고자 하였고 ‘배우는 육아’와 ‘아이를 떠받드는’ 육아로 변화하는 과정을 겪었으며 부계 남성중심의 문화 속에서 자녀를 ‘엄하게, 부족하게, 그러나 남에게 폐 끼치지 않도록’ 가르쳤다. 모세대의 육아모습은 여전히 전통적 모성의 책임감을 짊어진 채, 육아에 대한 주변의 도움을 기대하고 있었으며 자신들의 나약함을 인정하고 성장해나가는 과정을 보여 주었다. 이 두 세대의 육아의 모습은 자연스러웠던 육아가 익숙하지 않아 어려운 육아로, 마음으로 키우는 육아에서 경제력으로 키우는 육아로, 남편의 도움을 요구하지 않았던 육아에서 남편의 도움이 필요한 육아로, 이웃 공동체와 함께했던 육아에서 어려움을 풀어갈 조력자를 폭 넓게 선택하는 육아로 변화되어 왔다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to examine parenting in the grandmother generation and the young mother generation and changes in that regard between the two different generations by having in-depth interviews. The subjects in this study were seven selected pairs of young mothers and grandmothers. The young mothers raised children who were in early childhood, and the grandmothers were the mothers of the young mothers. The grandmother generation tried to offer “educational assistance” though they were in financial difficulties, and there was a shift in their parenting. At first, it was “what they had to learn”, and then it meant “putting children on a pedestal”. They taught their children “strictly without giving everything they wanted, and not to bother others”. The young mother generation still assumed the typical maternal responsibility and expected help from people around them. They admitted their own weaknesses and were still growing. Thus, there were changes between the two generations. Parenting is difficult to do due to unfamiliarity, whereas it was natural in the past. Parenting requires economic power, whereas it was done with the grandmother generation s heart. And help from husbands is necessary, while it wasn t. The grandmother generation didn t require help form their husbands. Finally, young mothers have many choices when they want to seek helpers with whom they can share their troubles, whereas parenting was shared with communities of neighbors in the grandmother generation.
