국문 초록

본 연구는 유아기 자녀 어머니의 강점에 관한 암묵적 지식을 통해 유아기 자녀 어머니의 개인강점과 양육강점에 대한 인식을 유형화 하는 것이다. 이를 위해 유아기 자녀를 둔 어머니들에게 개방형 설문을 실시하였고, 자료의 내용분석을 통해 의미화 된 개념으로 구성하였다. 본 연구결과는 먼저, 유아기 자녀 어머니의 개인강점에 대한 인식은 ‘인간애’, ‘절제와 용기’, ‘긍정성’, ‘지성’의 총 네 가지 유형으로 나타났다. 그리고 양육강점에 대한 인식은 ‘긍정적 모-자 관계’, ‘발달적 부모과업 수행’, 그리고 ‘양육 지혜와 지식’의 총 세 가지 범주 유형으로 도출 되었다. 이상과 같은 결과를 고려해 볼 때 본 연구는 유아기 자녀를 둔 어머니가 인식한 강점의 실증적 자료를 분석했다는 점에서 의미가 있으며, 어머니의 강점 인식 자료를 통해 유아기 어머니의 행복을 지원하기 위한 기초연구로 가치를 지닌다.

영문 초록

This study aims to examine the tacit knowledge of strengths possessed by mothers with young children in an attempt to categorize those mothers’ perceived personal and parenting strengths. To this end, the study surveyed 119 mothers with young children by using open-ended questions. Data from the survey were analyzed, and certain significant categories were obtained. The findings of this study can be summarized as follows. The surveyed mothers’ perceived personal strengths could be categorized into four groups. The first category (“humanity”) was about the understanding and consideration of others, love, carefulness, and social attitude. The second (“moderation and courage”) involves responsibility, persistence, morality, control, and life management. The third (“positiveness”) concerns optimism and vitality, whereas the fourth (“intelligence”), open-mindedness and eagerness for learning. Next, those mothers’ perceived parenting strengths could be categorized into three groups. The first category (“positive mother-child relationships”) was about understanding and respecting children, praise, encouragement, love, and positive emotions. The second (“developmental parenting competence”) concerns self-control, patience, forgiveness, justice and courage, whereas the third (“parenting wisdoms and knowledge”), creativity, openness, and eagerness for learning. With these findings considered, this study is meaningful in two ways. First, it analyzed empirical data on strengths perceived by mothers with young children. Second, it was a basic research that suggested how to support mothers with young children by identifying the mothers’ perception and better application of their personal strengths, which are key to their happiness.
