[V-오ᄃᆡ] 인용 구문과 [V-기를] 인용 구문에 대한 일고찰

국문 초록

본고는 중세국어의 [V-오ᄃᆡ] 인용 구문과 근대국어의 [V-기를] 인용 구문과 관련된 몇 가지 문제를 살펴보았다. [V-오ᄃᆡ] 인용 구문과 관련해서 다룬 문제들은 다음과 같다. 먼저 선행 연구들에서 [NP이 V-오ᄃᆡ S] 구문과 [NP이 V-오ᄃᆡ S ᄒᆞ-] 구문이 ‘ᄒᆞ-’의 삽입이나 생략이라는 통사적 기제에 의해 도출되는 구문들이라고 보아 왔던 점을 다시 검토하고, 이 두 구문이 ‘-오ᄃᆡ’ 접속문에 속하는 별도의 구문 유형이라고 보았다. 또한 중세국어 인용 구문의 ‘ᄒᆞ-’에 대한 선행 연구들에서 전제하는 대동사 개념을 다시 검토하여 이때의 ‘ᄒᆞ-’가 포괄 동사이자 인용 동사라고 보았다. 근대국어의 [V-기를] 인용 구문과 관련해서 다룬 문제들은 다음과 같다. 먼저 [V-기를] 인용 구문의 발달 과정에서 보이는 선행 동사 반복 유형은 중세국어의 [V-기를 AdvP ᄒᆞ-] 구문 중 일부 사례들의 변화와 관련된 것으로 보았다. 다음으로 [V-기를] 인용 구문과 유사한 통사 형식을 가지는 것으로 보이는 명명 구문과 [V-기를] 주제 구문과의 관련성을 검토하였다. 이를 통해 명명 구문은 [V-기를 AdvP ᄒᆞ-] 구문에 절 형식이 나타나는 변화를 [V-기를] 인용 구문과 함께 겪었다는 점을 확인하였고, [V-기를] 주제 구문은 [V-기를] 인용 구문과는 관련이 없는 것으로 보았다.

영문 초록

This paper examines the syntactic and semantic characteristics of two quoted constructions, which have a predicate-quoted clause word order: [V-otʌy] quoted construction (OQC) of Middle Korean and [V-kilul] quoted construction (KQC) of Modern Korean. OQCs have been explained as the syntactic derivation by insertion or omission of hʌ- in earlier studies. However, these views have several logical problems in terms of syntactic principles. So we noted that OQCs were –otʌy connective clause, and argued that these constructions are different in terms of syntactic structure of following clause: [NP-i V-otʌy S] have following clause which consist of [S] only; [NP-i V-otʌy S hʌ-] have ones which consist of [S] and quoted verb hʌ-. In addition, we argued that quoted verb hʌ is a generic verb in two OQCs, not a proverb regarded in earlier studies. KQC developed from [V-kilul AdvP hʌ-] of Middle Korean in Modern Korean. In earlier studies AdvP hʌ of this construction was restructured as a transitive verb. However, this reconstruction cannot be accepted considering the historical changes, which these constructions were developed into reduplication constructions by V copy. In addition, we considered KQCs were shared by named constructions since named constructions and quoted constructions have shared common syntactic constructions in Korean. Also, we considered [V-kilul] topic constructions as unrelated to the development of KQC.
