고학력 경력단절 여성의 역할전환 과정에 관한 연구

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 고학력 경력단절 여성의 경력단절 후 역할전환 과정을 알아보고 이에 영향을 미치는 요인은 무엇인지 탐색하는 것이다. 이를 위해 고학력 경력단절 여성 12명을 대상으로 심층면접을 실시하고, 근거이론 방법(Strauss and Corbin, 1998; Corbin and Strauss, 2008)으로 자료를 분석하였다. 본 연구결과 인과적 조건은 ‘근무여건의 어려움’, ‘자녀양육의 한계’, ‘전업주부라는 낯선 역할’이었으며, 중심현상은 ‘역할 상실이 의미 상실로 느껴짐’으로 나타났다. 맥락적 조건은 ‘일에 대한 태도’, ‘경력단절 결정에 대한 가족의 태도’, ‘주부에 대한 인식’, ‘가정경제 변화’, 중재적 조건은 ‘가족의 정서적 지지’, ‘사회적 관계의 지지’, ‘일에 대한 의지’로 나타났다. 작용/상호작용은 ‘상실감 회피하기’, ‘도움 추구하기’, ‘가족내 역할변화 시도하기’, ‘소비패턴의 변화 갖기’, ‘주도적으로 시간 관리하기’, ‘새로운인간관계 맺기’, ‘생산성 추구하기’로 나타났으며, 결과로 ‘정체성 재정립’, ‘나의 선택에 가치 부여함’, ‘경력개발을 모색함’의 범주가 도출되었다. 고학력 경력단절 여성의 역할전환 과정은 회피단계, 조정단계, 적극 시도단계, 안정적 진로모색단계로 나타났다. 본 연구는 고학력 경력단절 여성의 역할전환 과정및 관련 요인을 탐색함으로써 고학력 경력단절 여성을 위한 실천적 조력개입 방안 마련을 위한 학문적시사점을 제시하였다는 점에서 의의가 있다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to understand the role transition process of highly educated women after their career breaks and to present a substantive theory which explains the transition process. To this end, selected participants were 12 highly educated females with at least a bachelor’s degree who had been unemployed for more than a year and less than five years. In-depth interviews were conducted from participants, and data collected from the interviews were analyzed using grounded theory methodology(Strauss and Corbin, 1998). The result of the analysis revealed 130 concepts, 47 subcategories and 20 categories. The causal conditions were ‘difficulties in working environment’, ‘the limits of child care’, and ‘new role as a housewife’. A highly educated woman in career break was experiencing the central phenomenon of “loss of role feels like a loss of meaning”. The process of a highly educated woman’s role transition was revealed as ‘avoid phase, adjustment phase, ’active attempt phase, stable career seeking phase.’ The key category in the process of changing roles of highly educated women in their career breaks has been found to be ‘making a role productive by giving meaning to choice.’
