남성 독거노인의 ‘잘 늙어감’에 관한 현상학적 연구

국문 초록

최근 한국의 사회적 경향은 신체적·정신적으로 건강하게 살아내는 잘 살아감(Well-being)의 관점을 확장하여, ‘잘 늙어감’을 추구하는 단계에 이르고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 남성 독거노인의 ‘잘 늙어감’ 경험을 통해 그것이 갖는 의미와 본질을 이해하고자 하였다. 연구 대상은 만 65세 이상의 남성 독거노인 9명이며, 자료는 2018년 2월부터 4월까지 약 50일 동안 수집되었다. 자료수집은 심층 면접으로 진행되었으며 참여자들의 연령과 컨디션을 고려하여 1인당 평균 2회, 평균 50분 동안 이루어졌다. 이렇게 수집된 자료의 분석은 Giorgi의 기술적 현상학을 바탕으로 하였다. 분석 결과, 가족과 세상으로부터 외면당한 한의 역설적 풀이, 노욕과 집착 벗어나기, 고독한 죽음에 순응하기, 막막한 고요함 속에서 세상에 외치기, 홀로서서 자기 내어주기, 외로움 속 곰삭은 우정 맛보기, 가난한 공동존재 연대, 어울림을 통한 황혼의 지혜라는 8개의 본질적 주제가 도출되었다. 도출된 본질적 주제는 ‘고독한 노화 속에서 공동연대를 통해 함께 이루는 순응적 삶’으로 통합할 수 있었다. 이와 같은 결과를 바탕으로 노인들의 분별심과 협력적 코나투스(Conatus)에 관하여 논의하였다.

영문 초록

Recent social trends in Korea is that the definition of living a good life is not just limited to sound mental and physical health but it nowadays has been extended to the pursuit of Aging-well. Therefore, this study sought to understand the meaning and principle of aging and Aging-well elderly living alone through their experiences. The study was carried out on nine individuals aged 65 or older who live alone and the data was collected for approximately 50 days between February and April 2018. The data collection was collected via in-depth interviews and was conducted twice per person and for 50 minutes on average, considering the age and condition of the participants. The analysis of the data collected was based on Giorgi s Descriptive Phenomenology. As a result of analysis, eight essential topics have been derived, which include paradoxical understanding of deep grief ( Han in Korean) by family and the world, deviation from greed and obsession, adaptation to lonely death, shouting to the world in vast silence, giving myself by standing alone, tasting old friendship in loneliness, poor coexistence solidarity, and wisdom of the elderly through society. We were able to unify these essential topics into adaptive life that can be accomplished together through solidarity in lonely aging . Based on these results the distinction and the cooperative Conatus by senior citizens living alone were discussed.
