양극성장애 환자의 입원경험에 대한 질적 사례연구

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 정신병원 입원 전부터 퇴원까지의 과정에서 양극성장애 환자들의 입원경험을 이해하기 위한 것이다. 이러한 목적을 달성하기 위해 정신병원 입원경험이 있는 양극성장애 환자 6명을 대상으로 심층면담을 실시하여 자료를 수집하고, 수집된 자료를 질적 사례연구방법으로 분석하였다. 연구결과는 연구 참여자들의 개별 입원경험에 대한 기술 및 이슈분석, 그리고 연구 참여자들의 경험을 통합한 주제 분석 결과로 제시하였다. 통합 분석 결과 양극성장애 환자들의 입원경험과 관련하여 13개의 범주와 3개의 주제가 도출되었다. 3개의 주제는 입원 전: ‘더 이상 버티지 못하고 선을 넘다’, 입원: ‘삶의 끝 혹은 삶의 일부’, 퇴원: ‘막막하고 외로운 투쟁에 나서다’로 나타났다. 이러한 연구결과를 바탕으로 정신병원에 입원하는 양극성장애 환자들의 지원을 위한 실천적 함의를 제시하였다.

영문 초록

This study aimed to understand bipolar disorder patients’ experiences in the hospitalization process from pre-hospitalization to hospital discharge. For this purpose, the qualitative data were collected from in-depth interviews with six patients who had been diagnosed with Type I bipolar disorder by a psychiatrist and had an experience of being in a mental hospital. The collected data were analyzed through a qualitative case study approach. The results of the study were presented as a result of the description and issue analysis of individual hospitalization experience and the theme analysis of integrating bipolar disorder patients’ hospitalization experiences. 13 categories and 3 themes were emerged from the integrated analysis. The themes of bipolar disorder patients’ experiences of hospitalization were as follows: pre-hospitalization: ‘failure to hold on any longer and crossing the line’, during hospitalization: ‘the end or a part of life’, hospital discharge: desolate and lonely struggle’. Based on these results, this study offers practical implications for supporting bipolar disorder patients who are committed to a mental hospital.
