정신장애인이 주도하는 접촉프로그램의 강연경험에 관한 질적 사례연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 접촉을 활용한 반낙인 프로그램에서 정신장애인들이 자신의 질병과 회복경험을 강연한 경험의 의미를 탐색하고자 하였다. S클럽하우스를 통해 모집한 정신장애인 6명을 대상으로, 집단 및 개별면담 등을 통해 자료를 수집하고 질적 사례연구방법으로 분석하였다. 분석결과 4개의 주제로 나타났으며, ‘아픔, 두려움을 떨침’, ‘편견을 딛고 우뚝 섬’, ‘질병과 분리된 새로운 삶’, ‘변화를 향한 노력’ 이었다. 이러한 정신장애인의 강연경험은 사회적 낙인 속에서 겪어 온 질병의 아픔과 두려움을 떨치고 자신을 당당히 드러내어 사회적 편견에 맞서 대중과 소통하는 기회이자, 자신의 존재 의미와 가치를 재발견하고 질병과 분리된 새로운 삶의 행복과 만족을 누리며 사회변화를 위해 노력하는 과정으로 이해되었다. 연구결과를 바탕으로 정신장애인의 자기낙인 극복을 위한 실천적 함의를 논하였다.

영문 초록

This study was to explore the experience of a person with mental illness who lectured about their disease, and their recovery stories in a consumer-initiated anti-stigma program using contact. We gathered informations through in-depth interviews from six person with mental illness who are selected by using the purposive sampling method, and analysed through qualitative case study method. The results produced the following categorization of experiences; Banishing the pain and fear , Rise against prejudice , a Renewal life separated from illness , and the Small effort for change . Experience of lectures through person with mental illness is understood as proudly self-disclosing themselves banishing the fear they had to face from public stigma and opportunities to communicate with the public against social stigma, at the same time to the process of endeavour to social change, rediscovering one s meaning and value, and to enjoy and appreciate the renewal life separated from mental illness. Based on these results, we suggested a practical alternative social welfare perspective needed for a person with mental illness to overcome self-stigma.
