자유종교교육 모형 탐색

국문 초록

이 글은 현재 우리나라 기독교종립학교들이 종교교육이라는 과제 앞에서 정치적, 교육학적으로 봉착한 난관들을 인식하고, 그 해법을 위한 단서로 세 가지 종립학교 시도들을 모형으로 제시하되, 이들 각각의 모형들이 발전시킨 특징들을 통해서 현 상황에 유의미할 수 있는 쟁점을 골라 이를 중심으로 교육현장에 유실한 결론을 도출하려 하였다. 그러한 모형들은 독일에서, 그리고 그 중에서도 “자유종교교육”을 시도하는 종립대안학교들 중에서 선택했는바, 그 까닭은 이 문화권에서는 미국에서와는 달리 종교를 공교육의 주요한 과제로 인식해 왔기 때문이며, 또한 종립대안학교들은 그중에서도 더욱 유의미한 사례들을 발전시켜 왔기 때문이다. 그 사례들 중 첫째는 개신교 학교로서 헤르만 리이츠(Hermann Lietz)가 발전시킨 전원학사(Landerziehungsheim)이며, 둘째는 가톨릭 학교로서 칼 요제프 라이프레히트 학교((Carl-Joseph-Leiprecht-Hauptschule)이고, 마지막 셋째는 인지학적 종립학교인 발도르프 학교(Waldorfschule)이다. 결론 부분에서는 이들 사례를 통해서 우리네 학교 상황을 위해 유의미하게 거론해 볼 만한 쟁점들을 간추려 보았다. 아울러 이 주제에 관한 한 우리나라 학교들의 종교교육 상황 전반에 걸쳐 이례적이라고 할 만한 풀무농업고등기술학교의 종교교육 사례를 들어 그 특징적인 점들을 제시했다. 이상 논의를 바탕으로 마지막으로는 자유종교교육을 구현하기 위한 한 가지 모형으로 필자가 철학과 교육과정의 기초를 놓은 감리교종립대안학교인 “산돌학교” 사례를 소개하였다. 이 글은 비록 기독교종립학교를 위한 논의를 중심으로 하고 있지만, 여기서 끌어낸 단서들은 국공립학교를 위해서도 의미하는바 적지 않을 것이다.

영문 초록

This article aims for realizing Christian schools obstacles that politically and pedagogically are preventing religious education from developing in Korea, and then suggesting three models of Christian schools which could be the clues of potential religious education. And this article also tries to infer the fruitful conclusion for educational fields with viewing the debating points that could be meaningful in the present situation, through the analyses of the model schools characteristics. The model schools are chosen among Religious alternative schools that are practicing free religious education in Germany. The reasons why I chose these schools are as follows : First, German society perceives religion as a part of public education unlike the United States. Second, religious alternative schools have shown meaningful developments in this area. The three models of religious schools are Landerziehungsheim of Hermann Lietz, a Protestant school, Carl-Joseph-Leiprecht-Hauptschule, a Catholic school, and Waldorfschule, an anthroposophical religious school. In the conclusion part, I propose some issues which will be applied meaningfully to Korean context through the analyses of three cases. Moreover I also search for the characteristics of Poolmoo agricultural high school s religious education which could be an unusually successful case in Korea. Finally, based on the argument as I mentioned above, I propose Sandol School, Korean Methodist Religious Alternative School as a model for free religious education in our country because I myself formulated the basic principles of its philosophy and curriculum. Although this article is mainly focused on the Christian schools, it can be used as a rich evidence for national-public schools religious education.
