국문 초록

이 논문은 <효자전>이 현재의 시각으로 보면 ‘자기파괴적 효행’으로 읽힐 수 있지만 그 시대상황에서 생각해보면 종교감정으로 봐야함을 드러내기 위한 연구이다. 오늘날 감정연구가 세계적으로 활발하게 되고 있다. 감정연구에서 한국은 독보적인 위치를 가지고 있다. 세계사에 유래없이 긴 문신이 다스린 왕조를 가지고 있으며 또 조선시대 400년 동안 사단칠정논쟁이란 감정논쟁을 벌인 곳이기 때문이다. 종교라는 개념의 형성사에 있어서 한국에서는 일제 강점기에 법률적 식민통치 개념으로 들여와서 해방 이후까지 계속 그러한 개념 틀 속에서 지내왔다. 때문에 조선시대 종교성을 이해하기란 쉽지 않은 실정이다. 조선에서는 불효를 법으로 다스리는 법이 있었고, 사단에서 인에 해당하는 감정인 효가 가장 중요한 실천윤리였다. 그리고 이 효의 감정에 있어서는 모든 범위에 한계를 두지 않고 인정해주는 사회적 분위기가 있었다. <효자전>의 대부분 내용은 부모를 잃은 실컷 슬퍼하는 행위를 인정해 줬다. 그리고 상까지 내리는 사회적 분위기가 있었다. 이 연구는 오늘날 사회적 문제인 자살의 문제가 어찌보면 우리가 당연히 가지고 있었던 감정의 왜곡에서 일어났다고 밝히기 위함이다. <효자전>이 오늘날 제대로 받아들여진다면 모두의 감정을 소중히 여기는 사회적 분위가 형성될 수 있음을 것이다.

영문 초록

In this thesis, it was examiend that even though can be read as ‘self-destructive behavior’ from a contemporary viewpoint, it needs to be interpreted as a religious emotion taking the times and circumstances into consideration. Nowadays, studies on emotions are being conducted actively all over the world. Korea holds an unchallenged position in the studies on emotions. Because Korea had dynasties ruled by cilvil servants for a long time, which is unprecedented in the world history, and the argument over emotions, the Sadanchiljeong argument, continued for 400 years in Joseon Dynasty. In terms of religion, it’s not easy to understand the religious sentiment of Joseon because the term of religion was introduced as a concept of legal colonization in the Japanese colonial era and was limited in the conceptual frame even after the liberation from Japan. Joseon had laws to punish undutifulness to one s parents, and filial duty, the emotion corresponding to In(benevolence) of Sadan, was the most important practical ethics. And regarding this emotion of filial duty, there was the social atmosphere of recognizing it without any limitations in all scopes. In , almost all the contents were about the recognition of expressing the sadness of losing one’s mother as much as one wanted. In the social atmosphere of the times, those acts of expressing it were even awarded with a prize. In this study, it was emphasized that because today’s social problem of suicide is occurring probably due to the distortion of emotions we naturally have, if can be understood properly today, it will help establish the social atmosphere in which everyone’s emotions are respected.
