모래놀이치료에서의‘항아리’상징에 대한 고찰

국문 초록

상징은 무의식의 자율적인 정신활동을 자아가 의식화하여 통합하고 풍부하게 하는 심상(心像)의 하나인데 합리적인 것들이 우위를 점하고 있는 오늘날에도 언어를 넘어선 직관적 이해의 차원으로 안내한다. 모래놀이치료에서는 다양한 상징이 표현되는데 그 의미에 대해 알아가다 보면 이전에는 드러나지 않았던 정신세계의 다양한 측면이 나타나게 된다. 즉, 상징은 정신세계로 향하는 작은 통로로 개인을 자신의 내면 깊은 곳으로 인도하여 무의식으로부터 흘러나오는 메시지에 대한 귀한 통찰을 얻게 해준다. 그럼으로써 개인에게 심리적 건강과 안정을 가져다 줄 뿐만 아니라 각 개인을 둘러싼 현상학적인 세계 및 스스로에 대한 체험 방식을 심오하게 변화시킨다. 그러므로 상징에 대해 이해하고 그 의미를 깨닫는 것은 중요하다. 본 연구에서는 항아리의 기원과 성형법 및 지역과 시대에 따른 다양한 변화에 대해 살펴보고 그 상징적 의미를 고찰하였다. 항아리는 인류의 문화유산 중에서 가장 오래된 것 중의 하나로 농경이 시작되면서 저장을 위한 용기(容器)가 필요해짐에 따라 나타났고 음식물의 발효와 숙성에 중요한 역할을 해왔다. 여성적이면서 모성적인 원리로 연금술에서는 이질적인 것을 융합하여 변용시키는 소우주를 나타내기도 한다. 특히 모래놀이치료에서 모래상자 역시 인간의 전체 정신을 담아내는 용기이다. 모래놀이치료 상자에서 항아리는 심리적 자궁의 측면으로, 답답함을 느끼게 하는 고립된 갇힌 공간으로, 변환이 일어나는 장소로 표현되었으며 개인의 성장과 통합을 향한 전환의 가능성을 시사한다.

영문 초록

Symbol is one of imagery that an ego conscientize unconscious, autonomic mental activity and make it abundant by combining them. Symbol is classified as intuitive understanding that exceeds language, even though rational things hold a dominant. Many different symbols are expressed in sandplay therapy, and as we get to know about the meaning, various aspects of mental world appear that weren’t exposed before. In other words, symbol guide individual to his inner side by using a small passage toward mental world and allows having discernment of a message from unconscious. Therefore, it gives psychological health, stability, and even a profound change of one self’s experience mode and phenomenological world that surround individuals. Therefore, understanding and realizing the meaning of symbol is important. The research studied pot’s origin, how it is formed, differences of the pots based on the period and region, and the symbol of the pot. Pot is one of the oldest human’s cultural heritages that appeared as people needed container for storing as agriculture began, and it has been doing an important role in food’s fermentation and ripening. Because of feminine and maternal principle, it represents microcosm that fuses different things and transform. Especially in sand play therapy, sand box is also a pot that serve human’s whole mental. In the sand box, pot is psychologically womb’s aspect, a trapped, isolated place that makes people feel heavy. It is also expressed as a place where transformation occur, implying the possibility of turning point of individual’s development and unification.
