국문 초록

본 논문은 대상의 현시 능력으로 이해되는 감성의 역할을 검토함으로써, 칸트가 제시하는 취미판단의 가능성에 대한 설명에 대해 접근해보고자 한다. 이를 통해, 칸트가 제시하는 감성 능력이 미적 대상에 대한 주관의 보편적 감정과 관련되어 논의될 뿐만 아니라, 사물의 인식에 기여하는 감성의 역할 역시 칸트의 취미비판으로부터 배제되지 않는다는 점을 보이고자 한다. 나아가, 칸트의 취미비판 내에서 기능하는 감성의 이러한 두 가지 다른 기능 사이의 긴장이 바로 미적 대상에 대한 취미판단의 가능성을 뒷받침하는 하나의 원리로서 이해될 수 있다는 점에 대해 논하도록 하겠다. 논문은 다음과 같이 구성되어 있다. 2장에서는 경험주의 전통과 합리주의 전통에서 이해된 취미판단의 성격에 대해서 검토한다. 보다 구체적으로, 흄의 미적 주관주의와 바움가르텐의 미적 객관주의가 가지는 한계에 대해 살펴보고, 칸트가 제시하는 취미비판은, 칸트가 감성에 부여하는 선험적 성격으로 인해 기존의 취미비판 이론들과 구분되게 된다는 점을 설명한다. 3장에서는 『판단력비판』에서 칸트가 취미판단의 선험적 원리로서 인지 능력들 사이의 합목적적인 관계를 제시하는 과정을 살펴본다. 4장에서는, 그러한 초월적 취미비판의 과정에서 기능하는 감성의 이중적 역할에 대해서 살펴본다. 『판단력비판』에서 논의된 초월적 취미비판 내에서, 감성은 주관적 감정의 보편적 전달 가능성과 관련해서 주로 논의되는 반면, 대상의 인식에 기여하는 능력으로서의 감성 역시 칸트의 취미비판의 체계 내에서 배제되지 않는다. 필자는 오히려 그러한 감성의 이중적 기능들 사이의 긴장으로 인해 취미판단의 가능성이 설명될 수 있다고 생각하며, 그러한 감성의 이중적 기능들을 서로 분리하거나 동일시함으로써 이 둘 사이의 긴장을 해소하려는 가이어나 긴스보그의 해석은 칸트의 취미비판의 취지를 오해하고 있다는 것을 주장한다.

영문 초록

I argue that there are two distinct but interrelated roles of sensibility that Kant introduces to explain the possibility of taste in the Critique of Power of Judgment. The paper proceeds as follows. In chapter 2, I examine Hume’s aesthetic subjectivism and Baumgarten’s aesthetic objectivism, and argue that Kant’s conception of critique of taste is distinguished from these two positions due to the a priori characteristics that Kant ascribes to sensibility. In chapter 3, I examine Kant’s conception of purposiveness which is introduced as the a priori principle which grounds the possibility of the judgment of taste. In chapter 4, I distinguish two distinct but interrelated roles of sensibility which Kant introduces to explain the possibility of the critique of taste in the third Critique. While sensations are mainly discussed in terms of the feeling of pleasure or displeasure which grounds the judgment of taste in the first book of the third Critique, the role of sensibility which concerns the objective cognition of empirical objects is not excluded from Kant’s discussion of the critique of taste. I argue that the tension between the two different roles of sensibility operating in the third Critique can and should be understood as a principle which grounds the possibility of the judgment of taste. I argue that either Guyer who attempts to resolve the tension between the two different roles of sensibility by taking the two roles of sensibility as capable of occurring in two temporally separate moments respectively or Ginsgborg who attempts to resolve the tension by identifying the two roles of sensibility misunderstands Kant’s intension in proposing the critique of taste in the third Critique.
