국문 초록

본 논문은 독일고전철학의 대표적 사상가인 셸링의 자유 개념, 특히 그의 『인간 자유의 본질』(1809)에 개진된 인간 자유에 대한 새로운 착상의 문제사적인 의미를 밝히는 것을 목적으로 한다. 좀 더 자세히 말해 본 논문은 인간 자유의 본질에 대한 셸링의 착상을, 칸트의 근본악 개념으로부터 촉발된 서양 근대 자유 담론의 문제 맥락에서 조명하려는 목적에서 기획되었다. 이와 관련하여 본 논문은 다음과 같은 주장을 논증하고자 한다. 첫째, 칸트의 근본악 개념으로부터 촉발되고, 이후 논쟁을 통해 첨예화된 서양 근대 자유 담론의 근본 문제는 ‘이성으로부터 추동된 반이성적 선택, 즉 도덕적 악이 어떻게 가능한가’에 있다. 둘째, 『인간 자유의 본질』에서 셸링이 제시한 착상은, 자유[= 이성]의 현실화를 위한 토대로서 자연[=감성적 충동]이 가지는 구성적인 의미를 밝힘으로써 도덕적 악의 가능성과 관련한 서양 근대 자유 담론의 근본 한계를 드러냄과 함께 그의 극복을 위한 중요한 실마리를 제공한다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this thesis is to clarify the historical significance of Schelling s concept of freedom, especially the new conception of human freedom presented in his Philosophical Investigations into the Essence Of Human Freedom(1809). In more detail it was designed for the purpose of illuminating Schelling s conception of the essence of human freedom in the context of the problem of the modern Western discourse of freedom that was triggered by Kant s concept of radical evil. In this regard, this paper attempts to argue the followings: First, the fundamental theme of the modern discourse on human freedom, triggered by Kant s concept of radical evil, lies in the clarification of the question, ‘How is an anti-rational choice driven by reason, that is, moral evil possible?’ Second, the concept of ‘ecstatic will’, a new conception proposed by Schelling was designed to provide an important clue to the clarification of the possibility of moral evil. Third, the fundamental limitation of modern discourse on human freedom, which Schelling wants to point out through his new idea of the nature of human freedom, is that modern thinking did not understand the constitutive meaning of nature as the basis for the realization of freedom.
