미술관 교육을 위한 미적 교육의 재조명

국문 초록

현재 미술관에서 예술을 향유하고자 하는 사람들의 추세가 증가하고 있다. 그러나그런 수적 증가만큼 작품을 감상하는 질적인 측면도 같이 성장하였는지는 미지수이다. 미술관에서의 진정한 작품 감상은 단순히 작가의 생애를 이해하거나, 전문가의 작품비평을 수동적으로 듣고 이해하는 것이 아닌, 감상자의 삶과 관련짓는 방법이어야 한다. 기존에 창작 기법이나 미술사 등을 중시해 온 미술 교육의 흐름과는 달리, 미적 교육학자들은 ‘예술 작품’을 바라보는 것과 관련하여 보다 넓고 포괄적인 관점으로 교육과 삶의 전반적인 영역 안에서 예술과 교육을 바라보려고 했다. 이러한 특징 때문에미적 교육은 그동안 미술 교육 학문 내에서는 주목받지 못해 왔다. 그러나 미술관 교육은 미술 교육의 학문 내에서 사고하기 보다는 감상자의 삶과 관련하여 보다 폭넓은교육적 관점에서 바라볼 필요가 있다. 따라서 미적 교육의 흐름을 재조명하는 것은 미술관 교육의 가능성을 확장하는데 이론적 근거가 될 수 있다. 미적 교육의 흐름을 알아보기 위해 각 관점에 따른 미적 교육 이론에 대해 개괄적으로 살펴본다. 그리고 현재 실행되고 있는 미적 교육의 전형인 링컨센터예술교육원 교육방식의 바탕이 되는 맥신 그린의 철학 특징을 고찰하고, 이를 바탕으로 미적 교육이 오늘날 미술관 교육에미치는 함의를 도출하는 것을 본 연구의 목적으로 한다.

영문 초록

There is an increasing population of museum-goers in Korea. However,quantitative increase of interest does not necessarily mean increase of artwork-viewing’s quality. Artwork-viewing method in museum should connect artwork and viewer’s life, and viewers should not just listen passively about an artist’s life or an artwork’s meaning from a docent. Aesthetic education theorists, who are slightly apart from other art education theorists who place more weigh on art-making methods or history of art world, wanted to look at education and art world at a wholistic approach from viewing artworks. This characteristic of aesthetic education prevented them from receiving attention in the Korean art education society. However, museum education should be approached in a wholistic way, and think artworks and a viewer’s life transactionally, not in a narrower one-way. Therefore, re-exploring aesthetic education at this point would be meaningful for expanding museum education’s possibility. To find out meanings and transitions of aesthetic education, this article looks into existing aesthetic education theories into three parts-humanity,aesthetic experience, and aesthetic literacy. Also, it further explore contemporary aesthetic education theory of Maxine Greene. Consequently, this article discuss points that can be suggested to our current museum education by aesthetic education. First, museum education should be an education which can link artworks to students’ lives. Second,through aesthetic education, students will be able to look artworks in the museum deeply to find their own meaning. Third, students will foster their capacities of imaginative learning. Fourth, aesthetic education in a museum setting based on constructive approach can be applied to methods of a docent’s explanation or museum education programs.
