국문 초록

인물상은 선사시대부터 현재까지 그림의 소제로 다루어지고 있다. 인물상이 그림의독립된 주제로 등장한 것은 17세기 후반부터였다. 17세기에서 19세기 조선과 에도에서는 경제성장에 따른 신분제의 변화와 사람들의 주체의식이 강화된 시기이다. 인간중심의 사회가 조성되고 서민의 생활이 집중 조명 되면서 서민이 그림의 주인공이 된것이다. 풍속화는 기존의 역사화와 기록화에서 벗어나 순수회화성을 띤 가장 한국적인회화가 되었다면, 서민의 유흥문화를 그린 우키요에는 일본의 대표적인 회화로 부상했다. 본 연구는 사회현상이 비슷한 시기에 형성 된 조선의 풍속화와 에도의 우키요에에나타난 인물상을 다룬다. 19세기는 경제의 활성화로 도시문화가 발달하여 서민 의식이 높아진 시기였다. 다양한 직업에 종사하는 서민이 나타나고, 그들의 생활상을 소재로 한 풍속화와 우키요에는 독특한 인물이 표현 되어 있다. 이러한 회화는 그 나라의고유한 문화와 독창적인 미의식을 담고 있어 주목을 요한다. 따라서 양국의 19세기에그림에 등장하는 인물상을 비교분석하는 것은 당시대의 생활과 문화, 그리고 미의식을살펴보기에 충분한 가치를 가질 뿐만 아니라 근대의식의 양상도 찾아볼 수 있기 때문이다.

영문 초록

Figure has been used as a topic of painting since the prehistoric ages. Since the late 17th century, it’s been treated as the independent topic of painting. In Joseon and Tokugawa from the 17th to 19th centuries, a social class system changed, and people’s self-consciousness strengthened because of economic growth. With the establishment of a human-centered society and concentration on commoners’ lifestyle, a commoner became a subject of painting. While genre painting developed into the most typical Korean painting escaping from the conventional historical painting and documentary painting, Ukiyo-e which depicted the elements of commoners’ entertainment culture grew into the most popular painting in Japan. This study covers the figures in Joseon’s genre painting and Japan’s Ukiyo-e in which social phenomena were formed during the similar period. In the 19th century, commoners’ consciousness increased with the development of urban culture after economic growth. Commoners with various occupations appeared, and unique figures were painted in genre paintings and Ukiyo-e. These paintings are meaningful because they describe a country’s unique culture and aesthetic consciousness. Therefore, the comparative analysis on the figures paintings of the two countries in the 19th century is valuable enough to examine the lifestyle, culture and aesthetic consciousness at the time and discover the patterns of modern consciousness.
