국문 초록

안느-마르고 램스타인과 마티아스 아르귀의『시작 다음』은 글이 없이 그림만으로 이루어진 그림책으로, 두 장의 그림이 시작과 다음으로 펼쳐진다. 시간의 변화라는 주제로 두 쪽씩 부분이 모여 전체를 이루지만, 전체 구조는 다소 느슨하게 연결되어 있다. 이 연구는 이 그림책의 주제와 형식을 활용하여 개별적인 생각, 감각과 경험을 토대로 두 쪽 혹은 네 쪽의 그림을 그린 후, 다 같이 모아서 한 권의 그림책을 협 동하여 제작한 수업 사례와 그 교육적 의미를 다루고 있다. 스토리보드 드로잉, 밑그림 그리기, 채색하기, 협동그림책 이북(e-book) 제작하기, 에세이 작성에 이르는 수업과정과 결과물을 정리하고 후기를 분석하였다. 이 수업의 교육적 의미로, 첫째, 미술에서 표현은 나로부터 시작하지만 다른 사람에게 보여주려는 적극적인 의미라는 것을 수업을 통해 이해할 수 있었다. 둘째, 감각과 경험을 이미지로 생각하고 표현할 수 있었다. 셋째, 동일한 재료를 사용하면서 재료와 표현기법을 공유하고 실험적으로 적용할 수 있었다. 넷째, 개인이 이루기 어려운 목표를 함께 힘을 모아 공동으로 해결하면서 보람을 얻을 수 있었다. 마지막으로, 시간과 공간 경험을 이미지를 통해 공유하면서 자기이해는 물론 타자와 공감하고 소통할 수 있었다.

영문 초록

“Before After” is a wordless picture book by Anne-Margot Ramstein and Matthias Aregui. Each pair of pages illustrates a distinct aspect of time’s flow, the book’s central theme, and together form a loose whole. Here, I describe a collaborative picture book production course and examine its educational significance. Inspired by Before After’s theme and format, each student produced two or four pages of images based on personal thoughts, sensations, and experiences, and these images were gathered into one picture book. I summarize the course structure—storyboard preparation, sketching, coloring, e-book production, and essay writing—and analyze students’ course experiences. I report five points of educational significance. First, students realized that while artistic expression begins with the self, it is motivated by active desire to share with others. Second, students learned to visually express the temporally and spatially changing nature of the self. Third, by working with a common medium, students learned to experiment with the medium and share their artistic techniques with each other. Fourth, students felt a sense of accomplishment by collaboratively achieving a goal difficult for any individual to achieve. Finally, by expressing their temporal and spatial experiences in image, students achieved better self-understanding as well as empathy and mutual understanding.
