체화주의의 교육적 고찰

국문 초록

본고는 인지과학의 한 갈래인 체화주의를 교육적 측면에서 고찰하고 그것을 바탕으로 교육 이론으로서 체화주의의 재개념화를 시도한다. 이를 위하여 인간의 앎에 대한 전통적인 관점과 인지과학의 고전적 관점인 계산주의와 연결주의의 인식론적 입장을 살펴보고 체화주의에서의 앎과 비교하였다. 다음으로 앎의 문제가 곧 교육의 문제와 다르지 않음을 밝히고 반복적으로 제기되는 교육적 문제를 해결하기 위해 교육 현상을 체화주의적 관점으로 해석할 필요성을 제기하였다. 이러한 배경에서 체화주의의 교육적 원리와 학습 모델을 제시함으로써 체화주의를 교육 이론으로 새롭게 개념화했다. 교육이론으로서의 체화주의는 앎과 경험이 정신이나 뇌에 구속된 것이 아니며, 몸을 통해 환경과 결합하고 조화를 이루는 과정 전체로 설명한다. 따라서 교육은 지식이 주입되는 것이 아니라 역동적인 상호작용 속에서 학습자와 환경 모두가 변하는 과정이다. 이러한 개념은 전통적인 교육학이 충분히 관심을 두지 않은 교육 현상의 이면을 이해하는데 도움이 될 것이다.

영문 초록

In this paper, embodimentism is considered in terms of education. The paper attempts to reconceptualize embodimentism as a sub-theory of pedagogy. For this purpose, the metaphysical view of knowledge and the epistemological positions of computationalism and connectionism were reviewed and compared with embodimentism. It is revealed that the problem of knowing is no different from the problem of education. In addition, the review explains the necessity of interpreting this educational phenomenon from the embodied point of view in order to solve repeated educational problems. On the basis of this necessity, embodimentism is newly conceptualized in pedagogy, and educational principles and models of learning are presented. As a pedagogy, embodimentism regards knowing and experience as not being trapped in the mind or the brain. Rather, they are described as the whole process of coupling and harmonizing with the environment through the body. In this context, education is not an infusion of knowledge but a process in which both learners and the environment change through dynamic interaction. This concept will help shine a light “behind the scenes” of educational phenomena, in which traditional pedagogy has not been sufficiently interested.
