국문 초록

이 연구에서는 대학생의 자기 불일치가 사회불안에 미치는 영향을 타인인정 욕구와 자존감 안정성이 순차적으로 매개하는지 알아보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 5개 지역에 소재하는 6개 대학의 4년제 대학생 357명을 대상으로 자기 불일치, 타인인정 욕구, 자존감 안정성, 사회불안에 대한 설문을 실시한 후 구조모형 검증을 통해 매개효과를 살펴보았다. 연구결과 첫째, 자기 불일치는 사회불안, 타인인정욕구와 유의한 정적상관이, 자존감 안정성과는 유의한 부적상관이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 자기 불일치가 사회불안에 미치는 영향에서 타인인정 욕구와 자존감 안정성의 순차적인 부분매개효과가 나타났다. 결과적으로 자기 불일치가 사회불안에 직접적인 영향을 미치는 것뿐만 아니라 자기 불일치가 높을수록 타인인정 욕구를 증가시키고, 높아진 타인인정 욕구는 자존감 안정성을 낮춰 사회불안을 증가시키는 간접효과가 있다는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 이 연구의 결과는 사회불안으로 고통을 받고 있는 대학생을 상담할 때 실제 자신의 모습과 이상적이거나 의무적인 자신의 모습 간의 불일치 수준이 낮아질 수 있도록 돕는 것 뿐 만 아니라 타인의 인정 욕구와 자존감 안정성을 다루는 것이 사회불안을 감소시키는데 도움이 됨을 시사한다.

영문 초록

This study sought to ascertain whether stability of self-esteem and the need for approval sequentially mediate the influence of self-discrepancies on social anxiety. For this, a survey was conducted on self-discrepancies, stability of self-esteem, need for approval and social anxiety among 357 university students from six universities located around five provinces. The data was analyzed using structural equation model. Findings were as follows: First, correlation analysis results between variables revealed a significant positive correlation between self-discrepancies and social anxiety. Additionally, self-discrepancies were shown to have a significant positive correlation with the need for approval and a significant negative correlation with the stability of self-esteem. Second, stability of self-esteem and the need for approval was found to sequentially mediate the influence of self-discrepancies on social anxiety. These findings suggest that reducing actual-ideal/actual-ought self-discrepancies, while at the same time dealing the need for approval and stability of self-esteem, helps to improve social anxiety in counseling sessions with students with low social anxiety during the counseling session.
