지식기반사회에서 융합교육을 위한 간학문적 통합교육의 가능성 탐색

국문 초록

본 연구는 21세기 지식의 융합 시대에 요청되는 상상력, 창의력, 감성이 풍부한 전인을 육성하기 위한 교육시스템으로서 통합교육을 제안하고, 미술을 비롯한 예술 교과의 특성을 살린 통합교육의 방향과 실제에 대한 지침을 제공하는 것이 목적이다. 지식기반사회에서는 학문 분야 전반에 걸쳐 지식 융합의 물결과 함께 학제간 연구가 활발하게 진행되면서 산업, 경제뿐만 아니라 교육에서의 융합적 접근의 필요성이 강조되고 있다. 교육계에서는 개별 학문의 지식에 중점을 두는 오늘날의 교육으로는 현대 사회의 복잡한 문제를 해결하지 못하고, 여러 학문의 융합적인 지식이 필요하며 학생들을 위한 교육의 내용과 방식도 학문과 학문, 학문과 생활을 연결시켜 개별 학문의 경계를 넘어 영역을 확장시켜 문제를 해결할 수 있도록 ‘상상력과 창의력’을 육성해야 한다는 인식이 확산되고 있다. 루트번스타인과 루트번스타인이 강조한대로, 많은 교육심리학자들과 교육철학자들은 학문간, 분야간의 경계를 넘어 풍부한 상상력과 깊고 폭넓은 지식을 가지고 사고하고 새로운 것을 창출하는 전인을 길러내는 위한 교육의 방법론으로서 통합의 원리의 중요성을 시사하였다. 본 연구에서는 통합의 의미와 간학문적 통합에 대하여 논의하고, 미술과 과학의 간학문적 통합교육의 사례로서 미국 University of Massachusetts Lowell의 와 일본 동경시나가와구립 제삼희노소학교(東京品川区立第三日野小学校)의 <도전! 팅겔리>프로젝트를 소개하였다. 이 두 프로젝트의 공통점은 간학문적 통합으로서, 인지적 발달의 측면에서 뿐만이 아니라, 마음(mind)의 측면에서 살펴보면 과학과 공학, 미술의 탐구과정에서 상상력과 직관, 감수성, 시각화, 관찰, 반성적 사고, 시행착오를 통한 능력의 확장과 탐색, 예술과 과학, 공학 세계의 이해, 도구와 매체 사용에 대한 숙련과 장인정신 등 정서적 성향의 발달을 도모할 수 있도록 한다. 후속 미술(예술)교과의 특성을 살린 간학문적 통합 교육 프로그램 개발을 위한 연구를 위하여 몇 가지를 제안하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to inform the importance of integrative education to raise the whole man who has creativity, sensitivity, and abundant imagination and so great potentials to be highly adaptable to knowledge-based society, creative economic system society, and society of consilence of knowledge. In addition, this study intends to provide guidelines for developing arts-centered integrative education programs. In the knowledge-based society, as cross-studies in the various fields of the society including industry and economic have been fulfilled, the urgent need has been increasing to introduce integrative education into the traditional educational systems. Although there is sustained educational efforts that has been recently made to add integrative education approaches such as ‘creative experience activities’ to the traditional subject-centered curricula, its existing piecemeal approach framework is still persisted by and large in Korean National Curriculum. It is highly recognized that today’s Korean education needs to be changed in the way that it helps students to learn problem-solving process by exploring connections between the disciplines, and between disciplines and life without losing the uniqueness of the silos, which will be able to extend their imagination and creativity, and enlarge in-depth knowledge across the boundaries of each discipline: As a powerful methodology for raising well-rounded persons, integrative educational approach is offered in this study. project of University of Massachusetts Lowell and project of Japanese elementary Arts and Craft activity are introduced as exemplary interdisciplinary approaches of arts and other disciplines. The two projects bear some commonalities; they can facilitate not only students’ cognitive development such as in-depth knowledge and problem-solving in computer science, engineering, and arts, but also students’ development of attitudinal dispositions through the transfer of arts-integrative learning, which ultimately allows students to meet the educational standards. Some suggestions are offered for the future studies in relation to developing integrative education programs.
