초등교사의 핵심역량 개발 및 교사인식 분석

국문 초록

본 연구는 핵심역량 개념에 기초하여 초등교사의 핵심역량을 개발 및 정의하고, 그에 대한 초등교사와 예비교사의 인식을 분석하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 먼저 국·내외의 핵심역량 및 교사의 역량에 관한 논의들을 검토하였다. 다음으로, 이론적·개념적 맥락에서 교사의 핵심역량을 구안하고, 이에 관한 타당성 조사를 진행하여 최종적인 핵심역량 프레임워크를 수정하고 정교화하였다. 또한, 현직 교사와 교육대학교 재학생을 대상으로 핵심역량의 중요도와 실행곤란도, 그리고 이러한 역량을 개발하는 데 현재의 양성교육이 얼마나 기여하고 있는지 등에 관한 인식 조사를 실시하였다. 연구 결과, 우리나라 초등교사에게 필요한 핵심역량은 수업 역량, 학생 공감 역량, 의사소통 역량, 교육공동체 형성 역량, 교사정체성 개발 역량으로 도출되었다. 그러나 초등교사와 예비교사를 대상으로 한 인식조사 결과는 양성교육에서 여전히 교과를 가르치기 위한 지식과 기술에 편중된 기능주의적 측면이 강한 것으로 나타났다. 최근 학교 교육과정이 핵심역량을 중심으로 개정된 것과 호응하여, 교사교육에서도 교과나 직무 중심의 지식ㆍ기술교육을 벗어나 태도나 가치지향 등을 포함하는 역량 중심의 교육과정 개선의 필요성이 제언되었다.

영문 초록

The aims of the current study are (a) to develop and define key competencies for elementary school teachers, and (b) to examine how pre-service and in-service teachers perceive the proposed constructs of key competencies. For the purposes, this study consisted of three parts. First, we reviewed extant literature about teachers’ key competencies and developed key competencies for elementary school teachers based on the review. Next, initial conceptions of key competencies were revised and refined through two delphi studies. Finally, we examined pre-service and in-service teachers’ perceptions of importance of competencies, difficulty in performing competencies, and the extent of contributions of current teacher development curriculum to competencies. The five key competencies for elementary school teachers identified in this study were instruction competency, empathy competency, ability to build education community competency, and development of teacher identity competency. The survey results suggested that current curriculum is perceived to hold functionalistic perspective which mainly focuses on specific knowledge and skills. This study highlights the importance of integrating comprehensive competency approach into teacher development curriculum as well as school curriculum.
