기혼 남성이 사이버대학에서 상담을 전공한 경험

국문 초록

본 연구는 사이버대학에서 상담을 전공한 기혼 남성 11명을 면접하여, 그들의 경험을 이해하고자하였다. 면접 자료는 합의적 질적 분석 방법으로 분석하였다. 참여자들은 만족스럽지 않은 경험을 하고 대학을 졸업하였고, 직장 업무에 대한 만족감이 낮아 사이버대학을 입학하게 되었다. 참여자들은 자기 자신에 대한 이해와 상담이 필요하다고 느껴 상담을 전공으로 선택하였다. 타인을 돕고자하는 마음으로 입학하였던 참여자도 후에 자신의 문제를 해결하고자 하는 욕구를 보고하였다. 재학중 일과 학업을 병행하는 것이 힘들었지만, 전공 공부가 상담을 받는 것 같았고, 꿈을 나눌 수 있는 동료와의 교류가 학업을 지속하는데 도움이 되었다. 참여자들은 상담을 전공한 후 자녀와의 관계가 돈독해졌고, 부인과의 갈등이 줄어들었다고 보고하였다. 참여자들은 졸업 후 대학원에 입학, 상담분야로 이직, 그리고 기존 업무에서 상담으로 자신을 특화하였다. 본 연구의 결과를 바탕으로 남성의 고등교육 경험 및 경력 전환 그리고 사이버대학의 상담자 양성 과정으로서의 의미를 제시하였다.

영문 초록

This study aimed to explore married men s experiences of majoring in counseling at cyber universities. Eleven married men were interviewed and the interview data was analyzed by the consensual qualitative research method. The participants started studying at the cyber universities with dissatisfaction at their previous offline university experiences and current jobs. They studied counseling psychology as their major to help themselves and others and to pursue alternative career options. They had difficulties balancing work and study, but gained encouragement from peer students by sharing their career aspirations. After graduation, some entered graduate schools with a counseling major and transferred to counseling jobs. Others specialized themselves in the same job with a counseling major. Obtaining a degree in counseling helped them to have intimate relationships with their children and less conflicts with their wives. The results were discussed from the perspectives of men s higher education experience, job transference, and the role of cyber universities as a counselor education program.
