진로 결정 과정에서 우연 경험 연구: 전환 국면이 있는 코칭 및 상담 분야 종사자를 중심으로

국문 초록

본 연구는 진로에서 전환국면을 가진 코칭 및 상담 분야 종사자들을 대상으로 하여 진로 결정 과 정에서의 우연 경험을 탐색하였다. 이를 위하여 합의적 질적 연구 방법(CQR)을 사용하여 전환적 진 로 결정 과정에서의 개인의 우연 경험에 대한 심층적이고 깊이 있는 자료를 얻고자 하였다. 본 연구 를 위해 2번 이상의 진로 전환국면을 거친 30대 후반 이상의 코칭 및 상담 분아 종사자 10명을 연구 참여자로 선정하였다. 연구결과, 연구대상자들은 전환적 진로 결정 과정에서 우연적 요소가 영향을 미쳤다고 이야기하고 있었으며, 이를 통해 현재의 진로를 결정한 것으로 지각하고 있었다. 또한 이들 은 진로 전환 과정에서 우연을 기회로 만든 공통적인 개인적 특성을 갖추고 있었으며, 자신들의 진 로전환 과정에서 여러 가지 어려움이 있었으나 긍정적 마음가짐과 환경적 지지, 개인적 노력으로 이 를 해결하였다고 응답하였다. 또한 이들은 전환적 진로 선택 과정을 통해 얻어진 현재의 진로에 대 해 만족하고 있으나 또 다른 기회가 주어진다면 다시 새로운 진로로의 선택이나 전환을 기대하고 있 는 것으로 나타났다. 마지막으로 자신들이 가지게 된 우연에 대한 통찰을 조언으로 제시하여 진로상 담자들에게 새로운 진로 지도 방향의 가능성을 제공하였다. 본 연구는 우연을 기회로 만드는 개인의 경험과 성격적 특성을 실증적으로 탐색하였고, 이를 통해 향후 진로 상담과 프로그램의 구성 등에 효과적인 자료를 제공하였다는 점에 그 의의를 찾을 수 있다.

영문 초록

In career decision process, we investigated the experiences of happenstance of the coaches and counselors who experienced career transitions. Ten coaches and counselors over late thirties who have changed their career at least twice were interviewed. The interview data were analyzed based on Consensual Qualitative Research (CRQ) Method. The results indicated that happenstance significantly influenced on their career decision making process and current career position. The participants reported that they utilized happenstance events as an opportunity in career decision making process. In addition, the participants reported they had many barriers in the career decision making process, but they could overcome those barriers with positive attitudes, social supports and personal efforts. The participants are satisfied with their current career position, which has been achieved throughout the career transitions. In case, if they have another opportunity in their career development, the participants reported that they would continue to take new choices or change their career path. Finally, the participants suggested some lessons gained from insights on happenstance experiences in career decision making process. The results showed the importance of finding the happenstance experiences as an opportunity in career decision making process. This study also provided useful implications to career counseling and developing of career programs in the future.
