척수장애 남성의 미술치료 활동경험에 관한 내러티브 탐구

국문 초록

본 연구는 건강한 사회인으로 살아가던 한 남성이 불의의 사고로 척추 손상을 입은 중도 척수 장애 남성의 삶을 탐구한 것이다. 미술치료 활동을 통해 연구자와 참여자인 척수장애 남성이 자신의 삶에 대해 무엇을 이야 기하며, 장애인 자신의 삶을 수용하는 가운데 미술치료가 주는 의미를 탐구하고자 하였다. 연구 기간은 총 11 회기 미술치료를 진행하였으며, 일주일에 한번 씩, 1회기는 90분으로 진행하였다. 본 연구는 참여자의 체험을 ‘있는 그대로’ 봄으로써 실존적이고 질적인 변화에 주목하고자 하였다. 분석방법은 내러티브 탐구를 실시하였 다. 그 결과 참여자의 미술치료 활동 과정에서 경험한 내용은 ‘소통의 대상이 필요해’, ‘나를 표현하기에는 두려 워요’, ‘나 때문이라는 죄책감’, ‘죄책감을 내려놓으며 나를 사랑하게 되다’, ‘생각도 할 수 없었던 미래, 나에게 도 찾아올 것 같아’와 같이 처음에는 참여자와 관계 맺고 있는 주변인들을 탐색하였고 부정적이고 왜곡된 생각 들을 지각하면서 자신을 먼저 사랑해야 함을 알게 되었고, 자신의 욕구나 감정을 표현하는데 서투름이 많았으 나 하나하나 씩 표현하게 되었다. 또한 미술치료는 연구 참여자에게 ‘표현은 어렵다’ 그럼에도 불구하고 ‘나도 그릴 수 있구나’하는 용기를 가졌으며 ‘아무것도 할 수 없는 나에게 찾아온 표현기회’를 통해 ‘과거 현재와 미 래를 연결하고’, ‘있는 그대로의 나로 살아냄’의 의미를 가졌다.

영문 초록

In this study involves a man, who was physically healthy before his vertebrae was damaged in an unexpected accident, was explored. Through art therapy the researcher and participant talked about each other's lives. The participant accepted he was disabled and inquired into the meaning of art therapy to him. The participant received 11 sessions of art therapy once a week. Each session lasted 90 minutes. This study looked into the participant’s experiences as they were and focused on the existential and qualitative change in the participant’s life. The narrative inquiry was used as the main methodology. The participant's experiences during art therapy were expressed as follows: ‘I need someone to communicate with', 'I am afraid of expressing myself', 'a sense of guilt that it was because of me', and ‘I come to love myself taking my mind off guilt', ’a future that I never imagined, but I may have a future’. The participant was led to look into his relationships with people around him and gradually came to think that he should love himself realizing his own distorted ideas. Eventually, he was able to express his feelings one by one though it was not easy for him. Through art therapy, the participant came to feel ‘draw too' though he had difficulty expressing himself. He could ‘connect the past, present, and future with one another' and ‘could live his life as it is' through this opportunity of art therapy given to him.
