국문 초록

색채는 인간의 희노애락의 감정에서 오는 다양한 심리상태를 대변해 주는 마음의 표현이다. 묘화자들은 특히 주위환경에 민감하게 반응하여 색을 결정하는데 이때 그림 속에 나타나는 색채는 현재 상태에 놓여 있는 묘화자의 강한 정서와 거의 일치한다고 볼 수 있다. 이러한 성질을 갖고 있는 색채를 통하여 자신도 모르는 사이에 무의식의 억압된 감정이 표출하기도 한다. 즉 정서를 바탕으로 한 심리가 작품 속의 색채를 통하여 표출된다고 말할 수 있다. 그리하여 많은 연구자들은 인간의 색채심리에 관심을 가졌는데, 일반적으로 색채를 보았을 때 연상되는 분위기를 결정하기 위한 연구를 통하여 짙은 주황색이 가장 자극적인 색이고 그 다음으로는 주황색과 동황색이며 마음을 가장 안정시키는 색은 보라색 자주색의 순이라고 주장했고, 또한 어떤 연구자는 색채 실험을 통하여 회색, 파란색 및 자주색은 비극과 가장 잘 어울리고 빨간색, 주황색, 노란색은 희극에 어울리는 색이라는 결과를 보고했다(김화중. 1985).

영문 초록

In this study, we classified Gogh’s works by his residential district and observed the correlation between colors and psychological emotions by psychologically analyzing surrounding circumstances the artist was living in and the colors he used in his works. By doing so, we, first, found that colors sensitively react to the surrounding environment and circumstances and second that it is possible to suggest sentiments which appeal to a human soul by invigorating a screen with colors, emphasizing the form and creating a rhythm in accordance with one’s feelings and sensibility. Third, we proved that colors can analogize emotional psychological condition, alIowing for a wordless conversation, and fourth, discovered that the hidden genuine essential character is reflected in colors. Thus, colors reflect surrounding environment and psychological condition of a person who wants to express them. We proved that reactions felt through colors are fundamentally closely connected to the means of conveying one’s life and emotions. In this thesis, we observed emotional reactions of colors by analyzing Gogh’s works. based on the color theory of several color psychologists, and discovered that the reaction felt in colors plays the role of representing a mental state from a similar standpoint. Therefore it will be possible to use this method as a technique for curing and preventing psychological diseases, as well as helping people Iive their everyday lives in a healthier and happier way.
