국문 초록

시인 김지하는 한국문화에서 창조력의 근간은 시김새이며... 시김새는 한국문화의 핵심이라고 말한 바 있다1) 국악인들은 한국 전통음악 또는 한국 전통음악 요소를 바탕으로 만들어진 곡을 연주하는데 있어서 그 음악을 가장 한국 음악답게 만드는 핵심 요소가 시김새라고 말한다. 그런데 시김새에 관한 기존 연구들을 살펴보면 시김새에 대한 정의나 개념이 분명하지 않을 뿐 아니라 연구자마다 달라서 통일되어 있지 않다는 것을 발견하게 된다. 시김새가 장식적으로 보인다는 점은 다수가 수긍하면서도 그렇다고 시김새가 장식음이다 라고 단정 짓지는 못한다. 말하자면 시김새의 개념이 장식음의 범주를 크게 벗어나지 못하고 있는 실정이다. 그러면 시김새에 대한 정의가 이처럼 명확하게 통일되어 있지 못하고 장식음이라는 개념의 한계를 벗어나지 못하는 이유는 무엇일까? 필자의 이러한 의문은 시김새는 어디에서 왔으며 우리 음악에 시김새는 왜 있는 것인지에 대한 관심으로 이어졌다. 본 연구는 이 질문에 대한 대답을 모색하면서 우리 선조들의 삶의 바탕에 깔린 주요사상들에 주목한다. 왜냐하면 사람들은 무의식중에 이러한 생활 밑바탕에 깔린 사상의 영향을 받아 생각하고 말하고 행동하기 때문이다. 우리 선조들의 삶의 기저에는 음양오행 사상이 있고, 그 사상 안에 음악과 관련한 사상을 율려(律呂)라고 하는데 이 율려의 속성과 개념을 파악하면 시김새의 바탕 개념을 찾을 수 있을 것으로 보았다. 시김새 역시 그 사상의 바탕위에서 나왔을 것이기 때문이다. 이 율려사상의 속성과 개념을 통해 시김새의 기본 정신을 알게 되면 시김새의 개념과 정의가 보다 명확해질 것이다. 요컨대, 본 연구의 목적은 율려사상과 시김새의 상관관계를 밝히고 그 결과를 바탕으로 시김새의 개념과 정의를 새롭게 제시하고자 하는 데에 있다.

영문 초록

Poet Kim, Ji-Ha once said that the basic source of creativity in Korean culture is the Shigimsae.... so the Shigimsae is the core of Korean culture. The musicians of Korean tradional music say that Shigimsae plays most important role in making traditional music and the works created based on the Korean traditional music style and elements to be koreanish. However reviewing previous studies about the Shigimsae, the definition or concept of Shigimsae has not been clearly defined and even varied according to researchers. Although most studies agreed that the Shigimsae were found decorative, but they didn t declare that Shigimsae would be a kind of grace note, but the concepts of Shigimsae seemed not to be significantly away from the range of grace note. Then why does the definition of Shigimsae not clearly unified and why the definition of Shigimsae is not away from the limits of concept of grace note? The questions led to the interests about where the Shigimsae was come from and why it has existed in Korean traditional music. Seeking for the answers about these questions, this study focuses on main thoughts lied in the foundation of Korean ancestors lives. Because people s ideas, arguments and behaviors are unconsciously influenced by the thoughts lied in the basis of such life. There were the Yin & Yan and the 5 Elements Theory and in its idea, a theory relevant the music called the Yullyeo(律呂) in the base of Korean ancestors lives. After recognizing the Yullyeo s attributes and concept, this study will enable to find out the basic concepts of Shigimsae. Because the Shigimsae might be originated from the Yullyeo theory. When the spirits of Shigimsae is found through the investigation about Yullyeo theory, the Shigimsae s concept and definition will be clearly identified. Therefore this study aims to reveal the correlation between the Yullyeo theory and Shigimsae, and furthermore, to propose the new Shigimsae s concept and definition.
