장편영화 ‘디 아워스’(The Hours)의 오프닝 시퀀스(Opening Sequence)에 나타나는 화면과 음악의 관계

국문 초록

본 논문은 장편영화 ‘디 아워스’의 오프닝 시퀀스에서 화면의 시제적인 흐름과 음악의 화성진행 간의 관계를 중심으로 비교분석하였다. 오프닝 시퀀스의 장면을 시제 흐름의 패턴으로 분석해보면 모두 네 개의 부분과 이에 따른 특정한 패턴으로 나누어지고 이러한 패턴은 반복으로 구성된다. 시제 흐름 패턴의 흐름은 화면 속의 인물 또는 카메라의 움직임, 유사한 행동과 사물 등에 의한 화면의 연계와 관계가 깊다. ‘디 아워스’의 오프닝 시퀀스 음악을 형식적으로 나누고 각 단락의 화성진행을 요약해보면 모두 네 가지 화성진행의 종류로 축약되며, 이는 화면이 네 개의 패턴으로 나누어지는 것과 유사한 점을 발견할 수 있었다. 오프닝 시퀀스 화면의 시제 흐름에 있어서 각각 서로 다른 시제에서 같은 시제로 도달하는 경향을 보여주기도 하는데 음악의 화성진행 패턴을 압축해보았을 때도 각각의 화성진행 패턴이 서로 다른 화성진행에서 항상 같은 화성진행으로 도달하는 유사점도 보여준다. 결국 영화와 음악의 시간문제는 서로 다른 고유의 관점을 각기 가지고 있더라도 ‘디 아워스’의 오프닝 시퀀스에서는 화면의 시제 흐름과 음악의 화성진행에 있어서 유사한 점을 보여주었다. 음악이 영화의 오프닝 시퀀스의 장면에 연속성을 부여하는데 있어서 결국 화면과 음악이 합쳐지게 되어 보다 유기적인 관계를 가지게 되는 것이 중요한 점이다.

영문 초록

The relationship between narrative tense movement in screen and the progression of chords of music in the opening sequence of the feature film The Hours is analyzed significantly in this paper. The opening sequence is composed with four parts which have each characteristic tense movement pattern s repetition when the scenes of the opening sequence of The Hours are analysed with patterns of narrative tense movement. Each characteristic tense movement pattern is related with the movements of camera and leading actors or actresses, similar behaviors and object in screen. The opening sequence music are classified under four kinds of chords progressions when the music composition form and the chords progression of each paragraph of music of the opening sequence are analysed. and therefore this musical analysis is quite similar to the scenes of the opening sequences which are composed with four parts. The scenes of the opening sequence of The Hours tend to move from the scene dissimilar with any other scene s narrative tense to the scene similar with any other scene s narrative tens. In the same way, music of the opening sequence tends to move from the chords progression dissimilar with any other chords progression to the chords progression similar with any other chords progression. Finally, although the film and music have different concept about temporal subject, there is showed similarity between the scene s narrative tense movement and the chords progression of the music in the opening sequence of the feature film The Hours . The systematic relationship between the screen and music is very important that the music gives continuity to the scenes in the opening sequence of film.
