대학신입생의 첫 학기 전환 유형과 통시적 변화 분석

국문 초록

이 연구는 중등교육에서 고등교육으로의 전환기를 맞이한 신입생들의 전환 경험을 통시적 관점에서 분석함으로써 대학신입생의 첫 학기 전환 과정의 특징을 파악하고자 시행되었다. 대학입학 전 예비대학 생 시기부터 입학 후 1학기 말까지 전환 경험의 종단적 자료를 수집하여 Strauss와 Corbin(2001), Glaser 와 Strauss(2011)가 제시한 근거이론적 접근에 따라 대학입학 후 첫 학기 중요 시기별 전환 경험의 변화 양상을 탐색하였다. 연구 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 대학신입생들의 전환 유형은 전환 동기, 전략, 실천 요소의 조합에 따라 ‘모방동조형’, ‘분주활동형’, ‘은둔정보형’, ‘냉담형’, ‘시행착오형’, ‘균형성취형’, ‘의도적유보형’, ‘마음만굴뚝형’의 8가지인 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 각 유형이 세 시기별로 어떠한 변 동 양상을 나타내는지 분석한 결과, ‘유형일관형’, ‘유형변화무쌍형’, ‘대학입학 후 유형일관형’, ‘유형유지 후 변동형’, ‘유형회귀형’의 5가지 유형 변화가 나타났다. 요컨대, 대학신입생들의 첫 학기 전환 경험은 동기, 전략, 실천의 강도에 따라 역동적이어서 대다수 연구 참여자들의 전환 유형이 한 가지로 고정되어 있지 않고 대학생활적응의 필요에 따라 변화한다는 것을 발견할 수 있었다. 대학신입생의 첫 학기 전환 경험에 대한 다면적 이해를 바탕으로 대학신입생의 첫 학기 대학생활적응에 대한 전환적 관점의 이해가 갖는 의의와 시사점을 논의하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to explore the types and changing patterns of the first semester transitions from secondary to college education that reflects the transition experiences of the first-year college students over various areas of university life. The grounded theory approach by Strauss and Corbin(2001), Glaser and Strauss(2011) was used in this investigation. The first semester transitions consist of three transition time-points of the admission and entrance to university, the mid-term examination, and the end of the term. The changing patterns of the transition experiences throughout the whole process of the first semester were explored. The transition types were determined by the levels of transitional motivation, strategies, and practice. The changing patterns of those transition types were explored over three transition periods. The changing pattern types consist of consistency , all-the-time change , first-half change and second-half consistency , first-half consistency and second-half change’, ‘regression’. These findings imply that the first semester transition experiences were dynamic depending on the intensity of the motivation, strategies, and practice, and that most of the research participants transition types were not fixed as one but changed with the needs of adaptation to college life.
