국문 초록

본 연구는 고령자들의 문화예술 활동 경험 수준과 행복수준의 관계에 대해서 알아보기 위해 ‘2022 국민문화예술활동조사’와 ‘2022 국민여가활동조사’에서 55세~64세의 전기 고령층과 65세 이상의 고령층을 대상으로 분석하였다. 주요 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 우선 전반적으로 고령자들은 문화예술 활동에 대해 경험이 부족한 현실을 파악할 수 있었다. ‘2022 문화예술활동조사’ 분석 결과 예술 활동에 대한 경험 수준을 전 장르별로 볼 때 분석대상 중 적게는 약 46%에서 최대 약 90%이상 해당 장르를 경험하지 않은 것으로 나타났다. 특히 문학, 미술, 음악 등 다수의 장르별 문화예술 활동에 대해 1년간 참여한 고령자들의 수가 연령이 높아질수록 유의미하게 낮아지는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 ‘2022 국민여가활동조사’ 자료를 기반으로 한 잠재프로파일분석에서는 모형 적합도 검증을 통하여 도출된 4개 집단 유형(다양한 참여 활동가/문화체육 활동형/취미 부자형/휴식 집중형) 중 다양한 참여 활동가와 문화체육 활동형 집단이 취미 부자형 집단과 휴식 집중형 집단보다 행복 수준이 유의하게 높게 나타났다. 위 분석 결과를 토대로 볼 때, 활발한 문화예술 활동이 고령층의 행복한 삶에 유의한 영향을 미칠 수 있음이 실증적으로 검증된 것이다. 이에 따라 향후 고령층을 대상으로 한 문화예술 활동의 활성화를 증진시키기 위해서는 생애주기 초기부터 지속적으로 문화예술을 경험하여 여가경력과 문화자본을 축적할 수 있는 교육 내용의 설계가 중요시되어야 할 것이다. 더불어 문화예술이 고령층의 건강과 삶의 재미, 사회 안에서의 치유 및 관계 설정에 긍정적인 역할에 부여할 수 있음을 강조하여 고령자들의 행복과 노년의 삶의 질 제고에 문화예술이 기여할 수 있는 부분을 적극 지원하는 정책 방안 마련이 필요할 것이다.

영문 초록

This study examines the association between cultural and artistic engagement and the well-being of the elderly. Utilizing data from the 2022 National Survey of Cultural and Artistic Activities and the National Leisure Activity Survey, the analysis focuses on two demographic groups: early older adults (aged 55-64) and older adults (aged 65 and above). The findings reveal that overall participation in cultural and artistic activities remains relatively low among older adults. The analysis of the 2022 National Survey of Cultural and Artistic Activities indicates that across all artistic genres, between approximately 46% and over 90% of respondents had no prior experience. Notably, engagement in cultural and artistic activities, particularly in literature, visual arts, and music, significantly declined with advancing age. Moreover, a latent profile analysis based on the 2022 National Leisure Activity Survey identified four distinct participation patterns: “diverse participation activists,” “cultural and sports activity-oriented,” “hobby-focused,” and “rest-oriented.” Among these, individuals classified as “diverse participation activists” and “cultural and sports activity-oriented” exhibited significantly higher levels of happiness compared to those in the “hobby-focused” and “rest-oriented” groups. These findings empirically underscore the positive impact of active cultural and artistic participation on the well-being of older adults. To enhance engagement in cultural and artistic activities among this population, it is essential to develop educational programs that facilitate lifelong participation, fostering the accumulation of leisure experience and cultural capital from an early stage. Additionally, cultural and artistic activities should be recognized as instrumental in promoting older adults’ health, social connectivity, and overall quality of life, warranting policy initiatives that support their integration into aging-related well-being strategies.
