국문 초록

본 연구는 KOSPI 상장 해운사의 지속가능보고서 발행이 ESG 평가와 관계가 있는지 검증하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 점차 ESG가 핵심 경영전략으로 자리 잡아 가고 있는 가운데, 많은 기업들이 ESG 활동에 관심을 기울이고 있다. 기업들은 저마다의 방법으로 ESG 활동을 수행하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 투명성과 호감도가 낮다고 알려진 해운업에서 지속가능보고서 발행은 ESG에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 분석하였다. 2010년부터 2023년까지 KOSPI에 상장된 해운사를 대상으로 한국ESG기준원이 발표하는 ESG 평가 등급을 이용하여 분석을 수행하였다. 분석결과, 해운사의 지속가능보고서 발행은 ESG 영역 중 환경분야 E 등급과 사회분야 S 등급에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. ESG 통합 등급과 지배구조 G 등급에는 유의하지 않은 양의 영향을 미친다는 분석결과를 제시했다. 본 논문은 글로벌 선사와 치열한 경쟁에 노출되어 있는 국내 상장 해운사의 지속가능경영을 위한 경영전략에 도움이 될만한 연구결과라 할 수 있다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to verify whether the issuance of sustainability reports by KOSPI-listed shipping companies is related to ESG evaluation. As ESG is gradually becoming a key management strategy, many companies are paying attention to ESG activities. Each company is carrying out ESG activities in its own way. This study analyzed the impact of issuing sustainability reports on ESG in the shipping industry, which is known to have low transparency and favorability. The analysis was conducted using ESG evaluation ratings announced by the Korea Institute of Corporate Governance and Sustainability for shipping companies listed on KOSPI from 2010 to 2023. Analysis results showed that the issuance of a shipping company's sustainability report had a positive effect on the E grade in the environmental field and the S grade in the social field among ESG areas. Analysis results also showed that ESG integration rating and governance G rating had an insignificant positive effect. This paper provides research results that can be used to develop management strategies for sustainable management of domestic listed shipping companies exposed to fierce competition with global shipping companies.
