한재 이목의 「다부」에 보이는 성리학적 수양론의 특징

국문 초록

한재 이목의 「다부」는 우리나라 최초의 차 관련 기록이자 최고의 차 노래이며, 차의 정신적 측면을 강조한 다도 철학서로 평가되고 있다. 특히 ‘오심지차(吾心之茶)’의 구절을 근거로 다도철학, 차의 정신, 심차사상을표현한 저술로 평가된다. 하지만 이러한 평가는 철저한 성리학자로서 한재가 수양을 강조했던 측면을 간과한것이다. 이에 본 연구는 ‘오심지차’의 전후 맥락을 분석하고, 「다부」가 지어진 조선 전기의 사상사적 배경을 고찰함으로써 한재의 다도 철학을 재구성해보고자 하였다. 그 결과는 다음과 같았다. 한재를 비롯한 조선전기 사대부는 주자 성리학을 철저히 수용·신봉하기 시작했던 세대로, 대체로 배불론의 입장에 서있었다. 한재는 호연지기의 수양을 강조하는 주자의 견해를 자신의 수양론으로 받아들여, 이를 「다부」에서 직접 언급하였다. 한재는 차에도 본연지성(本然之性)이 있다고 전제하고, 「다부」에서 이를 노래했다. 이로써 한재는 성리학적 수양의방편으로서 차를 권장하는 의미에서 ｢다부｣를 지었음을 알 수 있었다. 다만 한재는 차만으로는 수양이나 양생이 절로 이루어지는 것이 아니고, 마시는 사람 자체의 본연지성을 갈고 닦는 것이 또한 중요함을 역설했다

영문 초록

Han Jae’s Dabu (Rhapsody of tea) was evaluated as the first and best tea-related record in Korea, and as a tea ceremony philosophy book that emphasizes the spiritual aspect of tea. In particular, it was evaluated as a writing that expresses the philosophy and, spirit of the tea ceremony or the idea of mind tea based on the phrase “tea of my heart”. On the other hand, this evaluation overlooked that he emphasized discipline as a thorough Neo-Confucianist. Therefore, this study attempted to reconstruct Han Jae's tea ceremony philosophy by analyzing the context before and after “tea of my heart” and examining the ideological foundations of the early Joseon Dynasty when Dabu was built. Han Jae and the literati of the early Joseon Dynasty began to accept and believe the Neo-Confucianism of Zhu Xi, and they were anti Buddhism. Han Jae accepted the view of Zhu Xi emphasizing the discipline of “magnanimousness” as his cultivation theory, and mentioned it in Dabu. Han Jae assumed tea had its “own nature” and sang it in Dabu. From this, it could be seen that Han Jae built Dabu in the sense of encouraging tea as an expedient of Neo-Confucianism. Nevertheless, Hanjae emphasized the importance of cultivating or curing by tea alone, and cultivating the tea person’s natural intelligence.
