중일전쟁시기 老舍의 문제작 《不成問題的問題》 고찰

국문 초록

老舍의 소설 《不成问题的问题》는 중일전쟁 시기 大后方 즉 國統區에 위치한 농장을 시간적, 공간적 배경으로 하고 있다. 《不成问题的问题》는 전쟁시기 老舍 작품 경향의 전환기적 특징을 띤 소설로, 본고에서는 그동안 국내에서 연구가 전무한 상황인 老舍의 전시 소설 《不成问题的问题》를 작품에 등장하는 주요 인물들과 작품을 통해 작가가 드러내고자 하는 老舍의 문제의식과 사회 비판의 목소리에 주목하여 분석해 보았다. 작가는 이 작품을 통해 중일전쟁이라는 시대적 상황 속에서 개인의 이익 챙기기에만 급급한 인간의 탐욕과 부도덕성이 궁극적으로 어떻게 국가 전체를 퇴보시키고 있는지를 예리하게 비판하고 있다. 특히 별다른 노력도 없이 결국 다시 농장의 관리자로 돌아온 丁務源의 후안무치한 행동과 태도는 당시 중국사회의 부패와 비리를 상징하며, 개혁을 상징하는 인물로 그려진 새로운 主任 尤大興 역시 전문가적 소양을 갖춘 능력있는 인물이지만 농장 사람들의 공감과 신뢰를 얻지 못하고 결국 쫓겨나는 실패한 관리자의 전형으로 묘사되고 있다. 《不成問題的問題》는 老舍가 중일전쟁 시기 중국 사회의 부조리를 비판하며, 동시에 중국의 오랜 전통문화 관념 속에서 고착화되어 버린 인간의 본성에 대한 깊은 질문을 던지고 있다. 작품에 등장하는 인물들의 이미지와 상징적 장치는 당시 중국 사회의 문제점들을 생생하게 드러내고 있으며, 이를 통해 老舍는 독자들에게 각자의 위치에서의 도덕적 성찰과 사회적 책임을 요구하고 있다.

영문 초록

Laoshe’s novel Unproblematic Issues is set in a temporal and spatial setting on a farm located in large rear, or a district ruled by the Nationalist Party, during the Sino-Japanese War. Unproblematic Issues is a novel characterized by a transitional trend in the history of the war period, and this paper analyzes Laoshe’s war-era novel Unproblematic Issues, which has not been studied in Korea until now, by focusing on the main characters in the novel and the voice of Laoshe’s problematic consciousness and social criticism that the author wants to reveal through his works. Through this work, the artist sharply criticizes how human greed and immorality, which are only focused on personal interests, are ultimately degenerating the entire nation in the context of the Sino-Japanese War. In particular, Dingwuyuan’s reckless behavior and attitude, which eventually returned to the farm manager without much effort, symbolize the corruption and corruption in Chinese society at the time, and the new manager, Youdaxing, who is portrayed as a symbol of reform, is also portrayed as the epitome of a failed manager who is a talented person with professional skills but fails to gain the sympathy and trust of the farm people and is eventually kicked out. In Unproblematic Issues, Laoshe criticizes the absurdity of Chinese society during the Sino-Japanese War, while at the same time raising profound questions about human nature that has become entrenched in China’s long-standing notions of traditional culture. The images and symbolic devices of the characters in the work vividly reveal the problems of Chinese society at the time, and through this, Laoshe asks the reader to reflect on morality and take social responsibility in their respective positions.
