국문 초록

본 연구는 서울대학교 규장각한국학연구원에 소장된 ｢강화지도｣의 원형을 복원한 모사본 제작을 위해 2023년5월부터 2024년 1월까지 수행되었다. 문헌 연구와 유사 고지도 18점의 비교를 통해 ｢강화지도｣가 자연지리와 인문지리 정보를 상세히 담고 있음을 확인했으며, 복원 과정을 통해 제작 시기를 1883년 이후로 다시 판단하였다. 원본의 과학적 조사 결과 바탕재가 면직물임을 확인하고, 6종의 시료 중 원본과 유사한 면직물을 선정하여 바탕재 처리, 색표 및 연구작 제작을 통해 원본과 비교·검토하였다. 선묘는 피마준, 호초점 등의 기법으로 원본의 특징을 재현하였고, 채색은 과학적 분석 결과를 토대로 유기안료와 무기안료를 구분하여 자연지리와 인문지리 정보를 채색하였다. 복원 모사본은 접포 형식으로 장황을 완성하여 오동나무 상자에 보관하였다. 본 연구는 ｢강화지도｣ 원형 복원과 제작기법에 관한 자료를 제공하며, 연구, 보존, 전시 등 다양한 분야에서 활용될 수 있는 문화유산 복원의 사례로서 의미를 가질 수 있기를 기대한다.

영문 초록

This study was conducted from May 2023 to January 2024 with the aim of creating a reproduction of the original version of the Ganghwa Jido map held at the Kyujanggak Institute for Korean Studies at Seoul National University. Compared to 18 contemporary maps, Ganghwa Jido contains more detailed renderings of geographic landmarks, both natural and humanmade. Documentary evidence uncovered during the restoration process allowed the date of production to be revised to after 1883. Scientific examination of the original confirmed that the backing material is a cotton fabric. Six samples of fabric were considered for the reproduction, and the most similar to the original was selected. Experiments were performed for line and color creation, which were then compared with the original. Line drawing techniques such as pimajun and hocheojeom were used throughout the map. A scientific pigment analysis showed that organic pigments were used for the natural features, while inorganic pigments were used for the human-made features. Although currently mounted on a hanging scroll, Ganghwa Jido was originally folded and stored in the jeoppo style, and the reproduction follows that format. This study provides insights into the original production techniques of Ganghwa Jido and serves as an example of cultural heritage restoration with implications for research, preservation, and exhibition.
