제4차 산업혁명시대의 교회론: 확장된 교회로서 메타버스 교회(Metaverse Church)

국문 초록

교회는 지리와 위치상 항상 세상 속에 자리하고 있었고, 의미상으론 세상을 항상 사랑으로 품어왔다. 그것은 교회가 보편성과 우주성의 속성을 가지기 때문이다. 로마 가톨릭 구원관과 교회관에 반대하여 일어난 종교개혁은 특히 교회관에 있어서 많은 부분을 달리하였다. 종교개혁 이후에 개혁파는 개혁 교회는 항상 개혁되어야 한다(ecclesia reformata semper reformanda)라는 주장을 해왔다. 이런 개혁적 또는 변화적 요구는 내용과 형식에 있어서 모두에 해당한다. 이러한 개혁주의의 주장은 이 시대뿐만 아니라 앞으로도 계속 유효하다. 제4차 산업이 시작된 이후에 AI(artificial intelligence) 기술은 광속으로 발전하고 있다. 교회도 과학기술 시대에 중심을 잘 잡고 발맞춰 나가야 한다. 현재 지상에는 다양한 교회가 존재한다. 그리고 과학기술의 발전으로 가상 세계가 만들어졌고, 가상 교회인 메타버스 교회도 등장하고 있다. 지상 교회가 천상 교회와 연결되어 있듯이, 앞으로는 현존하는 교회들은 가상의 교회인 메타버스 교회와 연결될 것이다. 그래서 기술이 발전하면 할수록 현실과 가상의 경계가 점점 허물어질 것이다. 이미 인터넷 교회와 메타버스 교회가 생겨났다. 철학에서는 이미 과거에 플라톤이 이데아(Idea)를 설명하면서 생각 속에서 존재하는 가상의 세상을 현실 세계로 불러왔으며, 신학에서는 구약의 보이지 않는 하나님(Deus invisibilis)이었으나, 신약에 말씀이 육신이 되는 성육신(incarnation) 사건으로 예수 그리스도는 보이는 하나님(Deus visibilis)이 되었다. 교회론에 있어서 루터와 칼빈은 보이는 교회와 보이지 않는 교회로 가톨릭 교회관과 구별된 설명을 하였다. 이런 철학적이고 신학적인 논의들이 있어왔다면, 앞으로는 과학기술적인 논의가 여기다 덧붙여 설명이 되어야 한다. 눈이 나쁜 사람이 안경의 도움으로 사물을 보듯이, 앞으로 미래의 교회는 AR(augmented reality), VR(Virtual Realty), XR(eXtended Realty)이라는 기계적 안경을 눈에 착용하고 사물을 볼 것이다. 이런 AI와 ChatGPT 시대에 교회도 신학적인 담론을 준비해야 한다.

영문 초록

The church has always been in the world in terms of geography and location, and it semantically has always embraced the world with love. The Reformation, which took place against the view of salvation the Roman Catholic Church had, differed in many aspect, especially in the aspect of Church. It is because the church has the attributes of catholicity and universality. After the Reformation, the Reformed Church has argued that it must be reformed continually(ecclesia reformata semper reformanda). These reformative and transformative demands mean both content and form. The claim of the Reformed Church is valid not only in this age but also in the future. Since the start of the fourth industry, artificial intelligence (AI) technology has been developing at the speed of light. The church should also keep its balance in the age of science and technology. We have many churches on earth today. Furthermore, a virtual world has been created with the development of science and technology and a virtual church, Metaverse Church, is also emerging. Just as the earthly church is connected to the heavenly church, the existing churches will be connected to the virtual church, the Metaverse church in the future. So the more technology develops, the more the boundaries between reality and virtuality will be broken down. The Internet Church and the Metaverse Church have already sprung up. In philosophy, while explaining Idea in the past, Plato has already called the imaginary world that exists in thought into the real world and in theology it was the invisible God of the Old Testament(Deus invisibilis), but in the New Testament Jesus Christ became the visible God (Deus visibilis) by the incarnation event. Luther and Calvin distinguished the visible church and the invisible church in ecclesiology, which was different from the Roman Catholic. If there have been such philosophical and theological discussions, scientific and technological discussions should be added to them in the future. Just as a person with bad eyes sees things with the help of glasses, future churches will wear mechanical glasses called AR(augmented reality), VR(Virtual Reality), and XR(eXtended Reality) in their eyes and see things. In this age of AI and ChatGPT, the church must also prepare a theological discourse.
