국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 COVID-19 팬데믹 발생을 전후로 우리나라 지역 간 이동 네트워크의 특성을 분석하는 데 있다. 최근 우리나라는 전체 인구의 감소와 함께, 지역 인구의 감소가 심각한 사회 문제로 대두되고 있다. 이러한 상황에서 지역 간 이동은 지역 경제 활성화에 기여할 수 있으며, 지방정부는 지역 간 이동 네트워크의 현황과 변화 분석을 토대로 다양한 지원 정책을 개발해야 한다. 본 연구는 우리나라 지역 간 이동 네트워크를 설명할 수 있는 요소로 사회, 경제, 관광 인프라, 홍보 변수를 설정하였고, 사회연결망 분석 방법을 채택하여 분석을 수행하였다. 또한, 최근 지역 간 이동 네트워크에 중대한 영향을 미친 변수로서 COVID-19 팬데믹을 고려하기 위하여, COVID-19 발생 전후 시점인 2019년과 2021년을 비교하여 분석하였다. 분석 결과, COVID-19 발생 전후 SNS의 활용이 한국의 지역 간 이동 네트워크를 설명하는 데 유용함을 발견하였다. 특히 지역 내 방문자 유입 양상을 설명함에 있어, SNS가 전통적 관광 인프라보다 유용하다는 점을 확인하였다. 이에 지방정부는 전통적 관광 인프라를 확충하는 것도 필요하지만, 동시에 이를 효과적으로 전달하는 매개체로서 SNS의 활용 방안을 보다 적극적으로 모색할 필요가 있다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to analyze the characteristics of the interregional mobility network in South Korea before and after COVID-19. South Korea has been experiencing a decline in population not only in the overall population, but also by region, which has become a major social problem. Under these circumstances, interregional travel can contribute to revitalizing local economies, and local governments are exploring various policies to increase the number of visitors. This study uses social, economic, tourism infrastructure, and public relations variables as factors that can explain interregional travel networks in South Korea, and utilizes social network analysis methods. In addition, to consider the COVID-19 pandemic as a variable that has had a significant impact on interregional travel networks in recent years, the study compares the pre- and post-COVID-19 periods in 2019 and 2021. We find that the use of social media before and after the COVID-19 outbreak is very useful in explaining interregional travel networks in South Korea. In particular, we find that social media is more useful than traditional tourism infrastructure in explaining intraregional visitor flows. While it is important for local governments to expand traditional tourism infrastructure, they need to better utilize social media as a medium to communicate this effectively.
