국문 초록

본 연구는 거주시설 이용 경험이 있는 중증장애인의 자립 경험을 통해 자립의 본질적 의미를 탐구하고자 하였다. 이를 위해, 내러티브 탐구를 활용하여 중증장애인의 거주시설 경험과 지역사회 자립 경험에서의 시간적 흐름, 사회적 상호작용, 상황을 탐구하였다. 연구 대상은 뇌병변장애 1급인 장애인 1명이며, 심층 면담은 2022년 10월부터 12월까지 3개월에 걸쳐 대면으로 4회 진행하였다. 연구 결과는 크게 거주시설 자립 경험과 지역사회 자립 경험으로 구분하였다. 먼저, 거주시설 자립 경험은 ‘선택권이 없는 삶’, ‘자유가 없는 통제된 삶’, ‘사람들과의 관계 악화와 무기력’, ‘자립 준비, 그러나 쉽지 않은 장애 요소들’의 네 가지로 범주화하였다. 지역사회 자립 경험은 ‘온전한 나만의 삶은 어디로’, ‘끝없이 부딪혀야 하는 자립의 여정’의 두 가지로 범주화하였다. 본 연구는 중증장애인의 자립 경험에 관한 내러티브를 형성하고 사회적 이해를 높이는 것에 의의가 있으며, 연구 결과를 바탕으로 지역사회 자립 방안에 대해 제언하였다.

영문 초록

This study explores the meaning of independent living through the experiences of an individual with severe disabilities, specifically a person with Grade 1 brain lesions. Using narrative inquiry, the research examines the temporal flow, social interactions, and circumstances in both residential facilities and community-based independent living. The participant was interviewed four times between October and December 2022. The findings are categorized into two areas: experiences in residential facilities, including themes of “a life without choices,” “controlled living,” “deteriorating relationships,” and “challenges in preparing for independence”; and community-based independence, highlighted by themes of “loss of personal wholeness” and “the ongoing struggle for independence.” This study enhances understanding of independent living among individuals with severe disabilities and provides insights for supporting community-based independence.
