부모의 학력이 청소년 자녀의 학업성취에 미치는 영향

국문 초록

본 연구는 한국청소년패널조사 자료 중 2007년 중2 패널 5차년도의 자료를 활용하여 부모의 학력이 어떤 경로와 과정을 거쳐 청소년 자녀의 학업성취에 영향을 미치는 지를 검증하였다. 특히, 본 연구는 부모의 학력이 자녀의 학업성취에 영향을 미치는 경로에서 가정의 빈곤, 비행, 부모자녀관계 그리고 자아존중감을 매개변수로 활용하여 이들 간의 상호 영향관계를 탐색하였다. 연구의 결과를 정리하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 부모의 학력은 자녀의 학업성취에 직접적인 영향을 미치기도 하지만 부모자녀관계와 자아존중감 등의 변수를 매개하여 학업성취수준에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 부모의 학력은 빈곤과 비행을 매개하여 학업성취수준에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 즉, 부모의 학력이 낮을수록 가구의 빈곤화 경향이 높고, 높은 가구의 빈곤은 학업성취에 직접적인 영향을 미칠 뿐만 아니라 빈곤경험을 매개하여 학업성취에 부정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 빈곤은 자녀의 학업성취수준에 직접적인 영향을 미칠 뿐만 아니라 비행과 부모자녀관계를 매개하여 학업성취수준에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이 같은 연구결과를 토대로 본 연구는 부모에 대한 경제적 지원과 함께 부모자녀관계, 자아존중감, 성취동기 그리고 비행을 예방하기 위한 학교복지체계의 구축과 심리사회적 서비스의 제공을 제안했다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to analyze the process through which parents' academic background influences their children's academic achievement. Many studies have shown a relationship between parents' academic background and their children’s academic achievement. Also, most studies have found a relationship between parents' academic background and poverty or poverty and child delinquency or delinquency behavior and self esteem. The analysis data for this study is five-year data compiled by Korea Youth Panel Survey. There are five latent variables and two observed variables in this study. The latent variables of this study are parents' academic background, the parent-child relationship, self-esteem, and academic achievement. Family poverty and delinquency are the observed variables. Results demonstrate that parents' academic background has a direct influence on their children's academic achievement level. Also parents' academic background influences their children's academic achievement through process variables such as poverty, delinquency, the parent-children relationship, and self-esteem. Especially, family poverty and delinquency negatively influence children's academic achievement. The findings from this study suggest that welfare policy for children focus on poor children whose parents' are from a lower academic background. Above all, future studies should be concerned with the degree to which children whose parents are from a lower academic background are systematically disadvantaged in terms of school performance.
