국문 초록

이 논문은 북한의 국가 건설기(1945.8.15.~1950.6.24.)의 북한문학의 형성과 전개를 문화통일전선의 관점에서 조명하도록 하겠다. 해방 직후 구카프 문학자 중 일부 그룹-한설야, 안막, 한효, 안함광 등-은 정치에 있어서는 계급 연합이 가능하나 문화에서는 계급 연합이 불가능하다고 주장하며 문화통일전선의 건설에 반대하였다. 하지만 소련군정은 한반도에서 친소적인 국가를 건설하기 위해서 계급연합적인 문화통일전선의 건설을 추진하였다. 이에 따라, 1946년 3월 25일, 조선[문학]예술총동맹은 좌파와 중간파가 협력하는 문화통일전선체로서 결성되었다. 하지만 문예총의 지도자들은 김일성의 노선을 따른다고 표방하면서 문학에서 계급성을 고수하였다. 1946년 말부터 문예총의 비평가들이 문화통일노선을 추진해온 소련파를 견제하는 과정에서 안함광이 조기천의 ｢백두산｣-김일성의 항일무장투쟁을 그린 서사시-을 혹평하는 일이 발생하였다. 이에 분노한 김일성은 이 비평의 배후에는 자신의 항일무장투쟁을 폄하하는 ‘종파주의자’들이 있다면서 이를 정치 문제로 간주하였다. 그 결과, 1947년 9월 16일 김일성의 지시에 의해서 북조선로동당 중앙위원회 문화인부에 문예총 담당 부부장 자리를 신설하는 것이 결정되었다. 이 결정으로 문예총은 당의 직접 지도를 받게 되었다. 1948년 9월 9일 북한에는 김일성을 수반으로 하는 연합 정권이 수립되었고, 1949년부터는 북한 지도부가 한국전쟁을 일으킬 계획을 진행하였다. 이를 위해서 북한문학자들이 정파에 관련없이 ‘김일성 중심의 애국주의’ 선전에 적극 협력하면서 중간파의 협력을 둘러싼 갈등은 소강상태에 들어갔다. 이러한 전개는 구카프 작가들의 문화통일전선 노선에 대한 견제가 북한문학이 정치에 종속되는 것을 촉진했음을 보여준다.

영문 초록

This paper explores the formation and development of North Korean literature during the period of peaceful nation-building from the perspective of the Cultural Unification Front. Shortly after liberation, some former KAPF (Communist Arts Proletarian Federation) literary figures, including Han Seol-ya, Yi Gi-young, and An Ham-gwang, argued that while political alliances among classes might be feasible, achieving such alliances in cultural spheres was unattainable. Thus, they opposed the establishment of the Cultural Unification Front. However, the Soviet military administration pursued the creation of a Cultural Unification Front to build a pro-Soviet nation on the Korean Peninsula. Consequently, on March 25, 1946, the Korean Literary and Arts Federation (KLAF) was established as part of the Cultural Unification Front, fostering collaboration between left-wing and moderate writers. Nevertheless, the leaders of the KLAF proclaimed their allegiance to Kim Il-sung's line while insisting on maintaining labor-class characteristics in literature. Starting from the end of 1946, as part of efforts to restrain the pro-Soviet faction seeking to strengthen the Cultural Unification Front, An Ham-gwang fiercely criticized “Baekdu Mountain” by Cho Ki-cheon, a narrative poem depicting Kim Il-sung's anti-Japanese armed struggle. This incurred the wrath of Kim Il-sung, who had directly guided the creation of the work. As a result, on September 10, 1947, under Kim Il-sung's directive, a deputy director position overseeing the KLAF was established within the Cultural Department of the Party Central Committee. This decision placed the KLAF under direct party leadership, which suffocated the autonomy of literature. On September 9, 1948, a coalition regime led by Kim Il-sung was established in North Korea, and by 1949, North Korean leadership began preparations to instigate the Korean War. This led to the beginning of patriotic propaganda aimed at elevating Kim Il-sung as a charismatic leader. Controversy regarding the cooperation between left-wing and moderate writers subsided as North Korean writers actively collaborated in the “Kim Il-sung-centered patriotism” campaign, irrespective of their political affiliations. In conclusion, I’d like to highlight that the efforts of the ex-KAPF writers to oppose the Cultural Unification Front ultimately resulted in North Korean literature falling under the direct control of the Party.
