국문 초록

본고는 18세기 전반에 창작된 이덕수와 오광운의 ｢京都八景｣과 정내교의 ｢漢陽八詠｣을 분석하여 공적·사적 차원에서 八景詩를 통해 표현하고자 한 당시 서울의 모습을 밝혔다. 이들 작품이 창작된 1720~30년대는 전란 이후에 國都와 국가가 재정비된 시기였으며, 영·정조 대의 중흥기로 나아가기 전의 과도기에 속한다. 본고에서는 이러한 과도기의 서울을 대상으로 창작된 八景詩에 주목하여 관료 문인이 공적 차원에서 그려낸 당대 서울의 이미지와 여항의 지식인이 사적 차원에서 그려낸 당대 서울의 이미지를 파악하였다. 2장에서는 이덕수와 오광운의 ｢京都八景｣을 분석하여 당시 공적 영역에서 나타내고자 하였던 국도로서의 서울의 이미지를 파악하였다. 그 첫 번째 특징은 서울을 京都로 지칭하고 원작인 정도전의 표제를 그대로 사용함으로써 國都로서의 위상을 높였다는 것이다. 두 번째 특징은 태조 때부터 이어져 온 서울의 상징성을 강조하였다는 것이며, 세 번째 특징은 전란이 종식되어 평화로운 생활을 영위하는 공간으로 서울을 나타낸 것이다. 3장에서는 정내교의 ｢漢陽八詠｣을 분석하여 여항인의 시각으로 그려낸 서울의 이미지를 파악하였다. ｢漢陽八詠｣은 내용상 1∼4수와 5∼8수로 나눌 수 있다. 이는 서울의 두 가지 면을 중심으로 하여 각 내용을 구성한 것으로, 1∼4수에서는 국도로서 서울의 모습을, 5∼8수는 생활공간으로서 서울의 모습을 나타냈다. 1∼4수에서는 국도로서 서울의 상징성을 활용하여 서울의 모습을 통해 조선을 이상적인 국가로 표현하였다. 5∼8수에서는 당시 서울 거주민들의 특성을 반영하여 서울의 다채로운 생활상을 나타냈다. 18세기 후기에 서울이 도시화·상업화되면서 이러한 서울의 모습을 표현하는 작품들이 다수 창작되었다. 이러한 점을 고려하면, 18세기 전반에 공적 영역에서 창작된 八景詩는 조선 초에 형성된 국도의 이미지를 계승하면서 전란 이후 정비된 국도의 이상적인 이미지를 나타냈다는 점에서, 사적 영역에서 창작된 八景詩는 도시화·상업화로 변모하는 과정의 서울의 실질적인 생활상을 나타냈다는 점에서 그 의의를 찾을 수 있다.

영문 초록

This study analyzed the headings and contents of Lee Deok-su and Oh Gwang-un's “Kyong-do Eight Views” and Jeong Naegyo's “Hanyang Eight Poems,” written in the first half of the 18th century. It aimed to comprehend the portrayal of Seoul during that period through the lens of these eight-scene poems, both at public and private levels. The 1720s and 1730s, when these works were crafted, marked a period of post-war reconstruction for the capital and the nation. This era served as a transition before the revival periods of King Yeongjo and Jeongjo's reigns. This paper focused on the eight-day poetry dedicated to Seoul during this transitional epoch, seeking to discern the city's image as depicted by bureaucratic writers on a public scale, as well as by Yeohang intellectuals on a more private level. In Chapter 2, Lee Deok-soo and Oh Gwang-un's “Kyong-do Eight Views” were analyzed to discern the portrayal of Seoul as a national thoroughfare intended for expression in the public sphere of the time. The analysis revealed several characteristics. Firstly, it elevated Seoul's status as the national capital by referring to it as “Kyong-do” and employing subtitles from Jeong Do-jeon's original work. Secondly, it accentuated the enduring symbolism of Seoul, dating back to the reign of King Taejo. Thirdly, it depicted Seoul as a space where the turmoil of war had subsided, allowing its inhabitants to enjoy a peaceful existence. In Chapter 3, the analysis focused on Jeong Naegyo's “Hanyang Eight Poems” to explore the facets of Seoul's image as perceived from the perspective of Yeo Hang-in. The poems are divided into two sections: numbers 1 to 4, which depict Seoul as a national thoroughfare, and numbers 5 to 8, which portray Seoul as a residential area. The first set of poems portrays Seoul as integral to the idealization of Joseon as a nation, while the latter set delves into the vibrant lifestyle and culture within Seoul itself. The Palgyeong poems, originating in the public sphere during the first half of the 18th century, inherited the image of the national capital established during the early Joseon Dynasty. They also articulated an idealized depiction of the capital city emerging after the war. On the other hand, the significance of Palgyeong poems from the private sphere during the same period lies in their portrayal of both the idealized state of the nation and the actual daily life within Seoul at that time.
