사회공헌활동이 재무성과에 미치는 영향

국문 초록

급변하는 경제환경과 소비자들의 요구에 따라 기업은 지속가능한 성장을 위해 사회적 가치와 같은 본질적인 가치에 중점을 두고 있다. 이에 따라 A협동조합은 독립되어 운영되는 개별 단위 협동조합별로 사회공헌 등 고객 유치를 위한 지속적인 노력을 하고 있다. 특히 개별 단위 A협동조합은 지역사회봉사, 행사 지원, 장학금 지급 등 긍정적인 영향력을 행사하기 위해 사회공헌활동비를 지출한다. 이러한 사회공헌활동은 기업의 이미지를 제고하여 경쟁력과 재무성과에 긍정적 영향을 미칠 수 있다. 이를 바탕으로 본 연구는 개별 단위 A협동조합이 수행하고 있는 사회공헌활동에 대한 비용의 지출이 현재 또는 미래의 수익으로 이어진다는 점에서 재무성과와의 관계에 대해 실증분석을 수행한다. 구체적으로 개별 단위 A협동조합의 사회공헌활동이 수익성 및 성장성에 미치는 영향을 검증한다. 개별 단위 A협동조합의 경우 지역 상호유대를 통한 금융서비스를 제공하는 조직이라는 점에서 지역에 따라 재무성과에 차이가 있을 수 있기에 추가분석에서는 소재지별로 A협동조합의 사회공헌활동이 재무성과에 미치는 영향을 검증한다. 본 연구의 실증분석결과를 살펴보면 다음과 같다. 개별 단위 A협동조합의 사회공헌활동비 지출 수준은 일정 수준까지 영업수익과 순이익, 그리고 예금과 대출금을 증가시키는 ∩형의 비선형관계로 나타난다. 추가적으로 소재지별로 분석한 결과, 밀집지역에서는 개별 단위 A협동조합의 사회공헌활동비 지출 수준이 수익성에 미치는 영향이 ∩형의 비선형관계로 나타난 반면, 소외지역에서는 ∪형의 비선형관계로 나타난다. 또한 성장성에 미치는 영향도 밀집지역에서는 ∩형의 비선형관계로, 소외지역에서는 예금성장률에 미치는 영향만 우상향하는 선형관계로 나타난다. 본 연구는 최적 사회공헌활동비 지출 수준을 제시함으로써 개별 단위 A협동조합의 사회공헌활동 의사결정에 기반이 되는 실증적 결과를 제시한다는 점에서 의의가 있다. 또한 개별 단위 A협동조합의 사회공헌활동에 따른 효율적인 경영을 통해 지역사회의 발전에 기여한다는 점에서 공헌점이 있다.

영문 초록

In response to the rapidly changing economic environment and the needs of consumers, companies are focusing on essential values such as social values for sustainable growth. Accordingly, Cooperative A is making continuous efforts to attract customers through social contribution for each independently operated cooperative. In particular, the social contribution activity cost of Individual Unit Cooperative A refers to the level of expenditure invested to exert a positive influence such as community service, event support, and scholarship payment. These social contribution activities can have a positive impact on competitiveness and financial performance by enhancing the image of a company. As such, this study empirically analyzes the effect of the expenses for social contribution activities currently undertaken by Individual Unit Cooperative A on its financial performance, specifically profitability and growth. In addition, in the case of Individual Unit Cooperative A, there may be differences in financial performance depending on the region as it is an organization that provides financial services through regional mutual ties. Accordingly, the additional analysis verifies the effect of cooperative A’s social contribution activities on financial performance by location. In the empirical analysis results of this study, expenses for social contribution activities of Individual Unit Cooperative A appears to be a ∩－type nonlinear relationship, which increases operating income, net income, and deposits and loans to a certain level. In addition, the impact of expenses for social contribution activities by Individual Unit Cooperative A on profitability seems to exhibit a non－linear ∩－shaped relationship in urban areas, whereas it manifests as a non－linear ∪－shaped relationship in rural areas. Similarly, the effect of these expenses on growth demonstrates a non－linear ∩－shaped relationship in urban areas, but only the impact on deposit growth in rural areas appears to follow a linear relationship. This study is significant in that it provides empirical results based on the decision－making processes of social contribution activities for Individual Unit Cooperative A by presenting the optimal level of expenditure for such activities. Furthermore, this study contributes to proving that efficient management policies such as the social contribution activities of Individual Unit Cooperative A assists the development of the local community.
