국문 초록

본 논고에서는 전통시기 태안 안흥량의 지명과 해역 범주, 선박 치패와 외국선박의 출몰을 분석하는데 중점을 두었다. 옛사람들이 생각하는 안흥량은 광의의 해역으로 전통선박이 지나가는 태안 항로의 거의 전 지역을 지칭하고, 관장목은 협의의 해역으로 안흥량 가운데 물살이 가장 험난한 특정 지역을 지칭한다. 현존 문헌상 전통시기 안흥량에서 일어난 선박 치패 사고가 무려 42건이나 된다. 이것만 보더라도 안흥량이 얼마나 험난한 해역인지를 알 수 있다. 선박 종류에 있어 절대다수가 풍력으로 움직이는 전통선박이지만, 화력으로 움직이는 동력 선박도 극소수 포함되어 있다. 계절상에 있어 여름철에 가장 많이 발생하였고, 가을철에도 이에 못지않기 많이 발생하였다. 안흥량에는 송나라 사신선, 왜구 전선, 청나라와 일본 표류선, 서양 선박으로 추정되는 이양선 등 다양한 외국 선박들이 출몰하였다. 특히 여말 선초에 왜구의 침공을 항전하는 전투 현장, 임진왜란 때 서해안으로 북상하는 일본 함대를 막아내는 해상 방어선, 조선 말기에 이양선의 잦은 출몰로 해양 안보를 지키는 중요한 해역으로 꼽혔다.

영문 초록

This study examines the geographical names, sea area, shipwrecks, and presence of foreign ships of Anheung Headland in Taean during the traditional period(12th century to the early 20th century). Anheung Headland was once thought of as a sea area in a broad sense by men of old, referring to almost all areas of the Taean route(泰安航路) through which traditional ships passed, while Gwanjangmok(觀漳項) as a narrow sea area, referring to a specific area with the most rough water flow among Anheung Headland. According to existing literature, there were as many as 42 cases of shipwreck accidents in Anheung Headland during the traditional period, which suggests how rough the Anheung Headland was. Regarding the vessel type, most of the wrecked vessels were traditional wind-powered vessels, but very few were fire-powered vessels. Regarding the season, most accidents occurred in summer, but there were as many accidents as in autumn. Various foreign ships appeared in Anheung Headland, including envoys from the Song Dynasty(宋朝), Japanese pirates, Qing(淸) and Japanese drifters, and unspecified foreign ships presumed to be Westen ships. In particular, it was considered a vital sea area to protect maritime security from the frequent appearance of Yiyang ships in the late Joseon Dynasty, as well as the battle site to resist the invasion of Japanese raiders in the late Goryeo Dynasty(高麗) and the beginning of the Joseon Dynasty(朝鮮), the maritime defense line to block the Japanese fleet from moving north to the west coast during the Japanese invasion of Imjin(壬辰倭亂).
