국문 초록

이 글의 목표는 헤겔과 니체라는 두 철학적 거인이 어떻게 근대 시민사회의 노동을 바라보았는가를 추적하고 비교하는 것이다. 노동을 매개로 한 헤겔과 니 체 간의 대립은 근대적 사유와 현대적 사유의 특징과 충돌 그리고 나아가 시대 적 전환을 대변하는 하나의 지점임이 분명하다. 헤겔은 인간을 비로소 인간답 게 해 주는 가장 결정적인 계기가 노동에 있다고 본 반면, 니체는 오히려 여가와 한가함에 있다고 생각하였다. 양자는 이런 측면에서 극단적으로 대립한다. 그 러나 다른 한편으로 양자는 구별할 수 없을 정도로 같은 목소리를 내기도 한다. 근대에 인간은 노동에 의해 무제한적인 욕망을 추구하는 자유로운 주체로 등장 했지만 바로 그런 무제약성이 근대의 인간을 상품을 생산하는 노동하는 기계로 전락시키고 말았다는 헤겔의 견해와, 근대 시민은 거대한 산업 체계의 부품이 되어 항상 노동의 피곤에 지쳐 여가와 한가함을 상실했다는 니체의 시각 사이 에서 어떤 이질적인 틈을 발견하기란 힘들다. 양자는 근대 시민사회에서 출현 한 노동의 전면적인 소외를 통찰하고 있었다. 그러나 어떻게 이런 소외를 벗어 날 수 있는가의 문제를 앞에 두고 이들은 다시 결별한다. 니체는 초인에서 출구 의 희망을 본 반면, 헤겔은 시민사회의 필연적 전개의 결과인 국가에서 문제가 해결될 수 있다고 믿었다. 노동에 대한 양자의 일치와 대립은 양자의 철학이 일 률적으로 반대항으로 규정될 수 있는 것이 아니라 중첩적이면서도 이질적인 관 계에 있음을 보여준다.

영문 초록

This essay aims to trace and compare the views of the two philosophical giants, Hegel and Nietzsche, on labor in modern civil society. The contrast between Hegel and Nietzsche regarding labor represents a clear turning point that reflects the characteristics of modern and contemporary thought, their conflicts, and ultimately the transition of eras. Hegel believed that labor was the most decisive factor that made humans truly human, while Nietzsche thought that the factor was leisure and idleness. In this aspect, the two thinkers are extreme opposites. However, they also produce nearly indistinguishable voices. In the modern era, humans emerged as free subjects driven by unlimited desires through labor, but such boundless desires transformed modern humans into laboring machines producing commodities, according to Hegel. In the almost same context, Nietzsche suggested that modern citizens were always tired of labor and lost leisure and idleness by becoming parts of a vast industrial system. It is difficult to discover any significant gap between these views. Both thinkers had insight into the comprehensive alienation brought about by labor in modern civil society. However, they parted ways again when faced with the question of how to overcome this alienation. Nietzsche saw hope for an exit from this alienation in the figure of the overman, while Hegel believed that the resolution of this issue could be found in the state, an necessary spiritual outcome of the development of civil society. The agreement and opposition between the two thinkers regarding labor shows that their philosophies are not simply defined as opposing sides, but rather has overlapping yet heterogeneous relationship.
