국문 초록

그 과정에서 숙영을 비롯한 모든 등장인물은 감정의 과잉과 도착적 행위를보인다. 이는 숙영 서사 전반에 걸쳐 기괴하고 음울한 정서와 공포의 감정들을불러일으킨다. 광기 어린 시선으로 현실을 표현하여 독자들로 하여금 환상적인신비로움과 함께 잔혹한 충격, 공포를 불러일으키는 서사 양식을 고딕이라 할때 숙영의 서사는 고딕의 하나로 이해될 수 있다. 고딕으로서의 숙영 서사는 선과 악의 단순한 구분과 권선징악이라는 전통적이고 관습적인 주제를 구현하는 데에서 그치지 않고, 보다 민중적이고 현실적인주인공을 형상화하는 한편, 가장 실제적인 질곡을 낯설고 자극적인 방법으로재현함으로써 누구에게나 내재한, 그러나 겉으로 말할 수 없고 표출할 수 없었던욕망의 에너지를 분출한다. 이러한 숙영 서사의 고딕으로서의 성격을 고려하면 궁극적으로는 상대를용서하고 화합하여 마당에서 하나가 되기를 꿈꾸는 축제적 구조의 판소리와는어울리지 않는 것인지도 모른다. 그런 숙영의 서사가 판소리화되어 공감을 얻기는 쉽지 않았을 것이다.

영문 초록

The Sukyeong Narrative, a love story between Sukyeong and Seongun, was evaluated as a work of fantasy among classic novels highlighting the problems of affection between male and female protagonists. Fantasy in the Sukyeong Narrative is more pronounced owing to the real world problems faced by the protagonists. In the process of solving the problem, the brutality of the ordeal experienced by the mysterious protagonist Sukyeong is emphasized. Since Sukyeong is a heavenly being with extraordinary abilities, the brutality of her hardships is further highlighted. Through the narrative, the characters, including Sukyeong, exhibit excessive emotional and perverse behavior, evoking bizarre, gloomy, and terrifying emotions throughout. It can thus be classified as Gothic, since the fantastic mysteries express reality with a mad gaze and evoke cruel shock. The Sukyeong Narrative not only embodies the conventional Confucian theme of a simple distinction between good and evil through its Gothic character, but also features a more popular and realistic protagonist facing the most realistic hardships reproduced in a strange and stimulating way. Therefore, the Sukyeong Narrative erupts with an energy of desire, inherent in all beings, that cannot be expressed externally. Considering its Gothic nature, this narrative is not compatible with regular pansori, which has a festive structure that ultimately dreams of forgiving, harmonizing, and coming together-in same place, “pan.” It would thus, not have been easy for the Sukyeong Narrative to be accepted as pansori.
