국문 초록

<춘향전>의 남녀 주인공은 매력적이다. 여기에는 현실에 대한 낭만적 인식이투영되어 있다. 춘향의 아름다움은 절대성을 띠는데, 이는 하층 여성에게도권력이나 신분으로써 침해할 수 없는 인간적 존엄이 있음을 드러낸다. 이도령은방탕하지만 춘향은 인걸로 받아들인다. 이런 모순에서 춘향의 욕망에 대한 지지와 신분을 초월한 인간 이해가 드러난다. <춘향전>은 황홀한 공간들을 제시한다. 이도령은 이 공간에서 황홀감을 느낀다. 이는 사대부의 세계관을 벗어난 삶의 양식을 긍정하고 새로운 계층의 자신감을드러낸다. 또한 이도령이 사랑의 의무를 감수하게 되는 서사의 논리를 형성한다. 신분을 초월한 사랑은 <춘향전>의 진보성을 드러내는 중요한 사건이다. 이는신분제의 현실에서 있을 수 없는 감정과 태도 그리고 행위를 제시하면서도이를 있어야 할 것으로 삼는다는 점에서 낭만적이다. 춘향과 이도령은 신분제가제안하는 존재 양식을 부정함으로써 관계를 맺는다. 이는 초야의 사랑 놀음에서바리가나 사랑가를 통해 나타난다. 그들은 서로에게 무엇인지를 묻거나 다짐한다. 사랑의 쾌감과 새로운 존재성의 추구는 동일시 되고 있다. 이러한 형상화는신분제의 한계와 인간의 존엄에 대한 신뢰를 체험하게 한다. <춘향전>은 이러한 낭만성을 기초로 삼아 미학적 공동체를 형성한다. <춘향전>의 낭만성은 <춘향전>이 19세기 조선의 사회 변동에서 새로운 자기를 만들어가는 집단의 자기서사였음을 보여준다.

영문 초록

This paper explores the concept of romanticism in Chunhyangjeon against the backdrop of social class. Chunhyangjeon’s progressive nature is realized not only through its reflection of reality but also in its romanticism; however, this is an insufficiently researched subject. This paper shows that the romanticism in Chunhyangjeon is divided into the use of attractive protagonists, enchanted spaces, and love that transcends status. The male and female protagonists of Chunhyangjeon are attractive, projecting the romantic perception of reality. Chunhyang’s absolute beauty represents the fact that even lower-class women have human dignity, which cannot be infringed by power or status. Lee Doryeong is a prodigal character, but Chunhyang accepts him as a hero. This contradiction reveals that her desires and human understanding transcend status. Chunhyangjeon also presents spaces that cannot exist in reality. Lee Doryeong feels ecstasy in this space, affirming that the way of life is beyond the worldview of the Sadebu (士大夫) and revealing the confidence of a new class. In addition, it seems logical to the narrative wherein Lee Doryeong assumes the duty of love. The progressiveness of Chunhyangjeon is seen in its idea of love that transcends status. This can be called romantic in that it presents emotions, attitudes, and actions that cannot be found in the reality of the social status system as an ideal. Chunhyang and Lee Doryeong begin their relationship by defying the existence of the status system. This is shown through the Bariga and love songs used in the love scenes on the wedding night. They ask each other who they are or want to be. The pleasure of love and the pursuit of a new existence are identified here. This allows us to experience the limits of the status system and to trust in human dignity. Chunhyangjeon forms an aesthetic community based on this romanticism, showing the play to be a narrative of a group that created a new sense of self amid the social changes of 19th century Joseon (朝鮮).
