국문 초록

심청의 고백을 중심으로 유형화해 보면 1)심청의 고백이 없는 경우, 2)심청이꽃 속에서 나올 때 고백하는 경우, 3)심청이 황후가 된 후에 고백하는 경우등으로 나눌 수 있었다. 그리고 이들 유형 내에서는 환세할 때 꽃 속에 시녀가있었는지 없었는지, 심청이 황후가 될 사람이라는 것을 확정하는 주체가 누구인지 등에 따라 세분화할 수 있었다. 이를 통해 심청의 신분 상승 문제를 서사 내적으로 논리성과 합리성을 확보하여 해결하는 방향으로 변모하였음을 알 수 있다. <심청전>에서 심청의 고백은심청 형상과 관련되는 중요한 요소일 뿐만 아니라 연행 현장에서의 극적 재미를더하고 수용자의 공감을 얻을 수 있는 요인으로 작용했을 것으로 보인다.

영문 초록

This study focuses on how the problem of Simchung’s status, which changed after her return to the world, is resolved in Simchungjeon. We thus focus on how Simchung confessed her identity and how the request for a feast for the blind was made. These two events are categorized relative to the time of her confession and whether each was directly connected to Simchung’s return in the flower or occurred after she had become empress. The context of Simchung’s confession can be analyzed as 1) when Simchung does not confess, 2) when she appears from a flower, and 3) when she confesses after becoming empress. Further subdivision is possible regarding whether there was a maid in the flower when Simchung sacrificed herself and who it was who confirmed that Simchung would become empress. Therefore, the scene of Simchung confessing her identity and status after passing away changed how the problem of her rise in status was solved, by securing logic and rationality within the narrative. It seems that Simchung’s confession not only relates to her image, but also adds a dramatic turn to the performance and gains the audience’s empathy.
