영화 관객의 <아이언맨> 생체신호 반응에 나타난 몰입도와 서사의 상관성 연구

국문 초록

관객의 몰입도는 서사의 흐름에 깊이 상관성을 갖는다. 장면들이 연속되는 시컨스에서 관객들은 상승과 하강의 곡선 그래프로 몰입도를 보인다. 주동인물이 위기에 처했을 때 몰입도가 증가하지만, 앞으로 펼쳐질 사건들이 잘 해결될 것이라고 판단을 하면 몰입도가 오히려 감소한다. 주목과 관심이 몰입도를 증가시키는 서사 요소라면 예견과 안도는 몰입도를 감소시키는 서사 요소가 된다. 이 영화의 서사 구조는 3막(Act)으로 되어 있으면서 총 9개의 상승과 하강의 몰입도 곡선을 보여주는 장(Chapter)으로 되어 있다. 몰입도가 서사의 전반적인 흐름과 밀접하게 관련되어 있다면 긴장도는 그렇지 않다. 장면에서 앞으로 어떤 사건이 벌어질 것인지를 전혀 예측하지 못할 때 긴장도는 증가한다. 이것은 서사의 흐름과 상관없는 단일 사건 장면과 밀접한 관련성을 지닌다. 앞의 장면과 연속되지 않는 파편적인 장면들은 몰입도와 관련이 없다. <아이언맨>에서 몰입도가 높아지는 데 긴장도는 낮아지는 장면들과, 몰입도는 낮은데 긴장도가 높아지는 장면, 그리고 몰입도와 긴장도가 같이 높아지는 양상을 보인다. 그때 긴장도는 서사의 흐름, 즉 장면들의 연속으로 이어지는 시퀀스와 관련성이 있는가 없는가에 따라 긴장도와 몰입도의 상호 관련성이 있다. 영화 <아이언맨>의 몰입도, 긴장도와 서사의 관련성을 살펴보면서 서사는 일직선적인 사건 연속의 선적인 구조를 지니지 않고 상승과 하강의 곡선 구조를 지니고 있다. 시드 필드가 언급한 선적 배열인 선형성을 띠는 것이 아니라 곡선의 그래프가 반복되고, 그것은 서사와 밀접한 관련이 있음을 본고에서 살펴보았다. 앞으로 남은 연구는 서사의 곡선 플롯 구조가 장르별, 즉, 액션, 드라마, 스릴러, 코미디 등에서 어떤 패턴을 지니고 있는지를 살펴보는 것이다.

영문 초록

The audience’s immersion has a deep correlation with the flow of the narrative. In the sequence where the scenes are continuous, the audience shows their immersion with the curve graph of rise and fall. The degree of immersion increases when the main character is in crisis, but the degree of immersion decreases when it is judged that future events will be resolved well. If attention and interest are narrative elements that increase immersion, foresight and relief are narrative elements that decrease immersion. The narrative structure is composed of three Acts and a chapter that shows a total of 9 immersion curves of rise and fall. If immersion is closely related to the overall flow of the narrative, tension is not. The tension increased when you couldn’t predict what would happen next in the scene. This has a close relationship with a single incident scene that has nothing to do with the flow of the narrative. Fragmentary scenes that are not continuous with the preceding scene have nothing to do with immersion. In Iron Man 1, there are scenes where the level of immersion is high but the level of tension is low, the level of immersion is low but the level of tension is high, and the level of immersion and tension are both high. At that time, tension and immersion are mutually related according to whether or not the tension is related to the flow of the narrative, that is, the sequence leading to the succession of scenes. Looking at the relationship between immersion, tension, and narrative in the movie Iron Man 1, it can be seen that the narrative does not have a linear structure of a linear sequence of events, but a curved structure of rise and fall. This study examined that the graph of curves is not linear, which is the linear arrangement mentioned by Syd Field, but that it is closely related to the narrative. The remaining research is to look at what patterns the curve plot structure of narrative has by genre, that is, action, drama, thriller, comedy, etc.
