영어유치원 만 6세 아동의 영어 발화 특징과 오류분석

국문 초록

본 연구는 영어유치원에 다니는 만6세 유아 23명을 대상으로 영어에 노출된기간이 다른 두 개의 반(호랑이반과 토끼반)에 재원하는 유아의 영어 발화 특징과이들의 오류를 조사하였다. 녹음된 자료는 전사되었고, 전사자료는 Coh-Metrix 소프트웨어를 사용하여 발화 특징을 분석하였다. 영어노출 기간이 2배 더 많았던 호랑이반학생들은 한 문장에 더 많은 단어를 사용하였으며, 사용한 단어와 문장 수도 많았다. 통사적으로도 더 복잡한 문장을 구사하였다. 품사 측면에서는 명사와 부사, 2인칭대명사를 더 많이 사용했다. 이에 반해 영어 노출 기간이 짧았던 토끼반 학생은 동사, 형용사, 1인칭 대명사 사용량이 더 많았다. 오류분석 결과, 두 반에서 모두 구문 오류가50% 이상을 차지했고, 이 중 동사 오류가 가장 많았고, ‘wh-의문문’ 형성할 때 많은오류가 관찰되었다. 형태소 오류 측면에서는 ‘주어-서술어 수 일치’ 오류, ‘한정사-명사 수 일치’ 오류, ‘관사 오류가 빈번하게 발생했다. 오류 발생 횟수 측면에서 호랑이반에서는 시제 오류, 조동사 및 전치사 오류가 더 많이 발생했는데, 이는 해당 문법을회피하는 것이 아니라 더 많이 사용하면서 나타난 오류였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is aimed at investigating characteristics of utterances in English produced by 6-year-old preschoolers at kindergarten. Twenty-three pre-school kids participated in this study. The kids were divided into two groups. One group was for preschoolers who had attended the kindergarten for less than two years(Lower Class) whereas the other group was for those who had attended the organization for more than two years(Upper Class). They were taught by two teachers: a native speaking teacher of English and a Korean teacher who teaches English. The utterances told by pre-school kids were recorded and transcribed. The transcribed data were analyzed by Coh-Metrix software tool and then in terms of error types. Students in the upper class produced more words and more sentences. Their sentences were syntactically more complex than those in the Lower Class. In terms of errors, verb-forms took more than half of the errors. Specifically, the learners in both classes produced more errors in progressive forms, operators, and tenses. Also the learners frequently showed many errors in subject-verb agreements and determiner-noun agreement. Children in the upper class tried not to avoid their weak grammars but to cope with them in their utterances, indicating they are in the process of developing their interlanguage.
