국문 초록

본고는 18세기 이후 한문학 자료를 중심으로 ‘즐거움’의 개념과 조건이 어떠한 변주를 거치고 있으며, 그 의미가 무엇인지를 궁구한 연구이다. 본 연구에서 주요하게 검토한 자료는 자신 혹은 타인의 인생에서 중요한 즐거움이 무엇인지 열거하는 텍스트이다. 즐겁지 않은 현실에 대처하기 위한 자기 위로와 自足으로서의 樂, 자신의 취향에 맞는 외물을 향유하거나 취향을 공유할 수 있는 벗과 만났을 때의 會心으로서의 樂, 현실의 구속에서 벗어났거나 세속적인 목표를 획득했을 때 느끼는 快를 언급한 글쓰기를 차례로 검토하였다. 이들 자료들은 각각 다른 층위의 세계 인식과 욕망을 내포하고 있으나, 진정한 즐거움은 학문적, 도덕적 성취를 이루었을 때 획득할 수 있다는 사유방식에서 공통적으로 이탈하고 있다. 즐거움의 의미와 그 대상이 구체화, 세속화되어가는 양상은, 즐거움을 향한 개인의 욕망이 더 이상 전통적인 이데올로기로 제어하기 어려워진 상황을 시사해준다. 18세기 이후 잉여 지식인의 증가, 개인의 취미, 기호에 관한 긍정적 인식의 확대, 경제적 발달 등이 이와 같은 즐거움에 대한 새로운 이해를 촉구한 것으로 이해할 수 있다.

영문 초록

This study attempts to analyze the variations in the concept and conditions of 'pleasure' and its meaning in Korean literature in Chinese since the 18th century. The primary focus of this study is a textual analysis of writings that enumerate important pleasures in one's own life or the lives of others. These writings include references to the pleasure of self-consolation and satisfaction in dealing with unpleasant realities, the pleasure of appreciating things that align with one's taste or meeting like-minded friends, and the exhilaration felt when escaping from the constraints of reality or achieving worldly goals. While these materials exhibit different levels of world perception and desire, they collectively diverge from the notion that true pleasure can only be attained through academic and moral achievements. The meaning of pleasure and the way in which its object is embodied and secularized suggest a situation where the control of individual desires for pleasure becomes challenging within the framework of traditional ideology. It can be understood that the emergence of surplus intellectuals after the 18th century, the broader acceptance of individual hobbies and preferences, and economic development have prompted a new understanding of such pleasures.
