국문 초록

연구목적: 본 연구는 지체장애 교사의 교직 수행 경험을 ‘장애학’적 관점으로 분석하기 위함이다. 이는 지체장애교사 ‘당사자 관점’에서 교직 수행과정에서 겪는 어려움, 지원 요구를 분석해, 향후 정당한 편의 제공, 복리후생, 인사관리 기준 개발 등의 기초자료로 활용하고자 한다. 연구방법: 지체장애 교사 14명을 대상으로 ‘구성원과의 관계’ 등이 담긴 비구조화된 질문지를 활용해 교직 생활에서의 경험을 심층 면담하였다. 분석은 질적 면담 분석법 중 지속적 비교 분석법을 활용하였고, ‘장애학’ 관점으로 분석되도록, 먼저, 장애학 관련 연구물을 참고해 개념을 학습하는 과정, 다음으로, 범주화, 정교화 과정에서 ‘사회적 장벽’ 등 ‘장애학’ 관점으로 코딩되도록 노력하였다. 연구결과: 심층 면담 결과, 지체장애 교사의 교직 수행 경험은 4개의 대범주, 9개의 중범주, 21개의 하위 주제로 도출되었다. 대범주를 중심으로 한 지체장애 교사의 교직 수행 경험은, 첫째, 교직 생활에서 자신의 장애에대한 ‘부정적 인식’, 둘째, 의학적 소견에 갇힌 ‘의존적 수혜자’라는 프레임, 셋째, 교직 사회의 차별적 구조를 타파하려는 ‘사회학적 인식’, 넷째, ‘당사자주의 원칙’에 기반한 교직 생활 지원 방안을 확인하였다. 결론: 지체장애 교사의 ‘정체성 형성 노력’ 등은 다양성이 존중받는 교직 문화를 형성하도록 돕고, 궁극적으로 이러한 과정에서 자신의 문제를 스스로 결정하고 해결하는 ‘당사자주의 원칙’이 실현될 수 있다.

영문 초록

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the professional teaching experiences of teachers with physical disabilities through the lens of ‘disability studies’. By investigating the difficulty they experience at educational institutions and their requests for support, this study aimed to derive preliminary data that could be utilized in the future to provide adequate convenience and welfare, and to develop standards in human resources management. Method: This study adopted in-depth interviews regarding experiences of teaching with 14 teachers with physical disabilities and used an semi-structured questionnaire about ‘relationships with school members’, and more. The constant comparative method, which is one of the qualitative interview analysis techniques, was used. Also, to analyze from the perspective of 'disability studies', we used terminologies used in ‘disability studies’ such as ‘a social barrier’ during the categorization and elaboration process. Results: In-depth interviews yielded four categories, nine main themes, and twenty-one sub themes about the performance experiences of teachers with physical disabilities in the teaching profession. The following are four categories of performance experiences in the teaching profession from teachers with physical disabilities: (1) ‘negative perception’ of one’s disability in teaching; (2) a stereotype that they are ‘reliant beneficiaries’ dependent on medical opinion; (3) ‘sociological awareness’ aiming to destroy discriminating structures in the teaching profession society; (4) a supportive method for teaching based on the principle of ‘Nothing About Us Without Us’. Conclusion: Efforts to form identity’ by teachers with physical disabilities help to develop a professional school culture where diversity is respected, and ultimately, the principle of ‘Nothing About Us Without Us’, which refers to these teachers’ deciding and solving their own problems, can be realized during the process.
