국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 TV 드라마 『괴물』에서 장애가 어떻게 형상화되고 있고, ‘괴물’이라는 상징과 장애가 결합하여 어떤 의미를 보여주는지 분석하는 것이다. 이를 위하여 Chatman의 서사 분석 틀을 활용하였다. 또한 이야기를 끌어가는 과정에서 장애가 어떠한 장치로 사용되었는지 분석하고자 하였다. 해당 드라마에서 장애인은 ‘아이와 같은 사람’, ‘의존해서 살 수밖에 없는 사람’, ‘폐를 끼치는 사람’, ‘불길한 이방인’으로 그려졌다. 또 장애와 결합한 ‘괴물’은 ‘왜곡된 심리와 거짓으로 일상에서 공포를 불러일으키는 존재’, ‘이방인으로서 우리의 안정을 깨뜨리는 존재’를 의미했다. 이와는 다르게 비장애와 결합한 ‘괴물’은 ‘복수와 정의를 향한 불굴의 의지와 힘을 가진 사람’으로 나타나고 있었다. 플롯 안에서 장애는 ‘주인공의 선함을 강조하는 도구적 장치’, ‘주인공의 탐색 과정에서 진상을 모호하게 하는 요소’, 동정심을 이용하여 인물의 악함을 은폐하는 도구’, 그리고 ‘평화로운 동네를 불안하게 하는 이질적 요소’로 활용되었음을 알 수 있었다. 이와 같은 결과로부터 드라마 『괴물』은 결국 장애를 ‘불쌍하고’, ‘의존적이며’, ‘이질적인’ 것으로 구성하고, 더하여 장애인을 ‘괴물’이라는 상징과 결합함으로써 우리 사회에서 사라져야 할 ‘공포감을 주는 이방인’으로 재현하고 있음을 확인하였다. 본 연구는 장애(인)에 대한 이러한 표상이 TV 드라마의 서사, 플롯, 상징 등과 결합하여 전방위적으로 재생산되고 있음을 보여주는 것에 의의가 있다.

영문 초록

This study aims to analyze how disability appears in the TV drama The Monste and what meaning it shows in combination with the symbol of the ‘monster’. For this purpose, Chatman's narrative structure analysis was used. In addition, the study tried to analyze what kind of device was used in the creation of the plot. In the drama, disability consisted of ‘a person like a child’, ‘a person who has no choice but to live a dependent life’, ‘a person who causes trouble’, and ‘an ominous stranger’. In addition, the meaning of a monster combined with a disability was shown as ‘an existence that arouses fear in everyday life with distorted psychology and lies’ and ‘an existence that breaks our stability as a stranger’. Contrary to this, the meaning of monster combined with non-disability refers to ‘a person with indomitable will and strength for revenge and justice’. The results of analysis show that disability was used as ‘instrumental device that emphasizes the goodness of the main character’, ‘elements that obscure the main character's search process’, ‘tool that conceals the evil of the character using sympathy’, and ‘heterogeneous factor that makes anxiety over a peaceful neighborhood’ in the process of plot development. These results eventually confirmed that disability is regarded as ‘pitiful’, ‘dependent’, and ‘heterogeneous’, and furthermore, combined with the symbol of ‘monster’, it is represented as a ‘frightening stranger’ that should disappear from our society. This study is meaningful in that it showed that the representation of disability is being reproduced in all directions in combination with the narrative, plot, and symbol of TV dramas.
