대만의 사회변화와 본토 언어 소실 위기

국문 초록

본 연구는 대만사회에서 토착문화와 본토 언어를 강조하고 있음에도 불구하고 갈수록 본토 언어의 사용빈도가 약화되고 공통언어인 國語(현대 중국어)의 사용빈도가 증가하고 있는 상황에 주목하고, 이러한 현상을 형성시킨 여러 가지 배경요인을 분석하고자 했다. 대만사회의 현실은 본토 언어가 소실 위기에 봉착했다. 각 족군이 가지고 있는 고유언어 즉 본토 언어가 공통언어인 국어에 비해 그 활력이 현저하게 떨어지며, 심지어 세대 간 전승의 위기에 봉착했음을 확인했다. 일제 강점기의 강제적 일본어 보급정책과 국민당 정부의 대만철수 이후 대만에서 시행한 강력한 國語(현대 중국어) 보급 정책은 대만의 본토언어가 소멸위기에 봉착하게 되는데 지대한 영향을 미쳤다. 1987년 민주화 이래로 본토언어가 소생의 기회를 얻긴 했으나 이 역시 다양한 사회경제적 원인에 의해 크게 활력을 얻기는 어려워 보인다. 정부와 민간차원의 지속적 노력이 필요한 상황이다.

영문 초록

This study examines the development and changes of indigenous cultures and languages in Taiwanese society. Through the analysis of various background factors, we can know that the frequency of use of indigenous languages is getting weaker and weaker, while the frequency of use of Taiwan's Guoyu(國語) (modern Chinese) is increasing. Today's Taiwanese society is facing the crisis of the disappearance of the native language. Compared with the current Guoyu(國語) (modern Chinese), which is the common language in Taiwan, the inherent language of the original ethnic groups in Taiwan, that is, the indigenous language, has significantly declined in language vitality, and is even facing a crisis of inheritance. The compulsory Japanese popularization policy during the Japanese occupation period and the powerful Guoyu(國語) (modern Chinese) popularization policy implemented by the Kuomintang (國民黨) government in Taiwan have had a huge impact on the crisis of the disappearance of Taiwan's native language. Since the democratization in 1987, although indigenous languages have had the opportunity to recover, they are also facing difficulties due to various socioeconomic reasons. To get rid of the crisis of local languages requires the continuous efforts of the government and the people.
