환갑 상황의 비언어적 인사 표현의 대조 연구

국문 초록

이 연구의 목적은 한국인과 싱가포르인의 환갑잔치에서 사용하는 비언어적 표현을 사회적 변수(성별, 연령별)에 의한 사회언어학적 방법과 공통점⋅차이점을 대조언어학적 방법으로 고찰하는 것이다. 먼저 상대방이 윗사람인 경우, 전체 공통점은 크게 없지만 차이점은 사회⋅문화적인 정서가 반영된 결과로 한국인은 정중한 인사(56.2%)를, 싱가포르인은 shake hands(43.4%)을 가장 많이 사용하는 것으로 나타났다. 성별 공통점은 없지만 양국이 사회⋅정서적 배경이 다르므로 한국인의 남자가 정중한 인사(60.7%)를, 싱가포르인 남자는 shake hands(40.2%)를, 한국인 여자가 정중한 인사(51.4%)를, 싱가포르인 여자는 shake hands (46.6%)를 사용해 차이를 보였다. 연령별 공통점은 한국인은 연령층이 높을수록 전형적인 ‘정중한 인사’를, 싱가포르인도 격식적인 ‘shake hands(악수)’를, 한국인과 싱가포르인의 젊은 층에서 다양한 종류의 비언어적 표현을 사용한다는 점이다. 반면 차이점은 연령에 상관없이 한국인은 정중한 인사(56.2%)를, 싱가포르인은 shake hands(43.4%)를 가장 많이 사용한다는 점이다.

영문 초록

This study aims to examine the commonalities and differences of the non-verbal expressions used at the 60th birthday party of Koreans and Singaporeans by socio-linguistic methods according to social variables (gender, age) as well as comparative linguistic methods. The results of the large-scale (n=2,000) Internet survey are as follows. First, when the other party is a superior or a senior, there is not much in common between the two countries. However, the difference is that Koreans give a formal bow saying polite greetings (56.2%) and Singaporeans shake hands (43.4%). It seems that this result is attributed to social and cultural differences. In terms of genders, although there is no commonality between the two countries, there is a difference. While Korean men (60.7%) and Korean women (51.4%) greeted politely, Singaporean men (40.2%) and Singaporean women (46.6%) shake hands. This also seems to results from the different social and emotional backgrounds of the two countries. Nonverbal expressions according to age have something in common in both countries. While the older age group uses formal greetings in Korea and shake hands in Singarpore.
